Its summer time again, so welcome back to Governor's Island! With the approval of the redesign plans for the island, things are starting to happen for the islands long term potential. But in the very short term, there's going to be a lot of demolition. the Motel 8 is one of the first buildings to go.
There is a saying among former island military residents about the hotel. Governor's Island, the nations oldest continuous military installation, may have a lot of cannons...

After decades of sitting empty, decaying on the Coney Island boardwalk, Child's Restaurant is finally getting renovated! The building, pictured in this post from two years ago, was once one of a small chain of New York restaurants, and has sat, largely abandoned and graffiti-covered for many years.
In 2003, it was designated a Historic Landmark, due in no small part, I'm sure, to its lovely terracotta reliefs and architecture. It is now undergoing...
