Illuminite

The lights go on at Yonge-Dundas Square for Christmas -- Illuminite 2009. The performers shown here did a fire act that involved dancing on the stage, weaving through the crowd holding flaming mitts, and a trampoline act that was just a bit too difficult to capture in the low light. Which is a shame because the trampoline involved a flamethrower. :( More at

Eastern Australia recently experienced some of the worst dust storms for many years. The drought, coupled with sporadic bushfires has made conditions less than pleasant for several weeks now. Fires are not just a thing of the past in Bushwick. One happened just this morning, on Palmetto Street and Ridgewood Place. Of course, I'm no reporter, just a teacher with a camera and a sense of history.
