 Eastern Australia recently experienced some of the worst dust storms for many years. The drought, coupled with sporadic bushfires has made conditions less than pleasant for several weeks now.
Irritating as the dust is on the eyes, nose and throat, it does make for some spectacular sunset studies.

Fires are not just a thing of the past in Bushwick. One happened just this morning, on Palmetto Street and Ridgewood Place.
Of course, I'm no reporter, just a teacher with a camera and a sense of history. So if i can narrate a bit from Bushwick's fiery past, I can tell you what these firemen from ladder Ladder 112/Engine 271 (and other companies) are doing here.
The fire fighter with the saw is about to cut a whole in the roof. Bushwick's older houses were such firetraps due to their common...

 A few years back I decided to go out and photograph the former locations of the New York Fire Patrol past and present. On 15 October 2006 the NY Fire Patrol was disbanded. At one point the Patrol had 7 companies and 3 Salvage Corp units. I was driven to work on this project as tribute to Keith Roma who was a member of the patrol who lost his life on September 11, 2001 during opperations at the World Trade Center. The Patrols primary duty during its existence was to protect property but when saving lives came into the picture...
