if you hit the roof button on the elevator three times in a row, it takes you up
but i never actually tried hitting it just once
so that could just be a thing people say to make each other look like dorks
or because they're superstitious.
it works better in worse weather, but i always thought if you looked straight out horizontally from the third floor it was easy to pretend you were walking 100+ stories from the ground in some futuristic city of science.
and as my camera and i get older and more beat up we remember things differently from how they...

Here are some pictures from Doors Open Toronto. I didn't get a chance to post them earlier. This year I visited some of the following places...
Toronto's First Post Office (1833-1839). 260 Adelaide Street East.
Chef School @ George Brown College. 215 King Street East.
Commerce Court North. 25 King Street West.
The Canada Permanent Building. 320 Bay Street.
The Canada Life Building. 330 University Avenue. Here there was an excellent view of Toronto from the 17th floor...
The Green Roof at Exhibition Place's Horse Palace. 15 Nova Scotia Avenue. This is apparently the biggest solar roof in Canada, although it didn't look that big to...

Due to an earlier post, I felt compelled to document the actual "Darth Vader Building" while recently in Seattle... this is a picture form atop the Space Needle...
...and one from ground level.
Seattle, Washington...

St Augustine, Florida is a great place to go browsing, quaint streets, small shops, a tourist town, a college town, this first pic is the college.
there she is walking her mom.

I took a trip to Budapest this January to visit a close friend and fell in love with the city the second I stepped off the plane. The buildings are dark and mysterious, and there are beautiful silhouettes of the tree branches and wires tangling together against the mid-winter sky. I tried to get a few shots of these elements, emphasis on tried, as well as a couple other oddities around the city - ex. the adorable little ash trays outside the metro exits/entrances that people politely use!

Last spring, my friend and I ventured to one of the top floors of the Aldred Building, a 23 story Art Deco skyscraper built in 1931. This is what we saw.
Looking east. The Jacque Cartier Bridge can be seen in the distance.
Looking north east. Chinatown can be seen in the centre of the photo as well as the exit of the tunnel of the Ville-Marie Autoroute.
Looking north west towards the Downtown business district...

On a recent walking tour of Coney Island, Francis Morrone (www.francismorrone.com) described the Abe Stark Sports Center as one of the Ugliest Buildings in New York.
I can't say that I disagree. From the utilitarian 1960s-era bomb-shelter aesthetic to the general apparent lack up maintenance, as well as the impassable fencing and steel pull-down doors, this structure seems to have many prerequisites for such a classification. Not to mention the element...

Crane building (houses lofts now, I think) off the 15.

Here is a shot of the old RCA building in St-Henri. The one with the Toshiba sign on top of it. I find it looks like something out of a videogame.
