The twins as seen from Brooklyn. By the 1970s shipping traffic had moved to the container port at Newark yet there was still general cargo going out and coming in. Somebody's getting some new Chevy pickups...

I've gotta admit, I'm a sucker for those colors and lines
Although we've got 3-1-1 now, I kind of wish some of those "Recorded Information" lines still
worked. Anyway, I tried a few of the numbers just for fun... Suicide Prevention was someone's
mobile voicemail box. Stock Market Prices was a fax machine, World Series was a dead number
and Time of Day was a recording explaining that I had reached a non-working number belonging
to the US Government...

After several hours of riding my bike along the freight rails in Glendale, Queens, I began looking for
an easy exit from the elevated rail-bed back down to street level. The gravel was getting increasingly
rough and daylight was fading.
I was excited to find this stash of locomotives hidden behind the bend of the only service road
leading away from the tracks. I was doubly curious, as I had never even heard of the
New York and Atlantic Railway....

 the little building in the middle is 130 cedar street. i worked there starting in june 1961. the big grey building at right had the cedar coffee shop on the ground floor. had the best cheese burgers in manhattan. where the fence with the crane jutting up is where st. josephs rc church was and next to it was st. nicholas church. every january they would walk over to the docks which was on the other side of west side highway and they would throw a cross into the hudson and a brave soul would dive...
