The building is the former film studios of The GPO Film Unit, an information arm of the UK’s General Post Office. Established in 1933. Later to become during the Second World War the Crown Film Unit (1940). It was created to produce socio-economic “feel good” films, to a nation under the privations of depression and the rise of national socialism at home and abroad.
