Montreal's Largest Mural?
[previous] :: [next]
I came across this on a lunch break and literally skipped a breath. I couldn't find it already posted on Citynoise, but even if it is, I think it deserves a second post. It is supposedly Montreal's largest mural, painted on the Mission Old Brewery at St. Antoine St. and St. Laurent Blvd. To be honest, my pictures don't do it justice. It is one of the most stunning works of art I have ever seen. This article has been viewed 1821 times in the last 16 months EvilGentleman: 20th May 2008 - 15:43 GMTHeh. This one has been sitting in my hard drive, waiting for me to stop procrastinating. Guess I'm too late. Nice post. Peter: 20th May 2008 - 15:56 GMTlets see yours in the comments, eg! also: the mural is amazing... i love the shady lettering in the second shot... the detail in teh third... wow, just wow. but yeah, id love to see some more photos of this... Montrealbunny: 21st May 2008 - 02:54 GMTPlease, please, please let`s see them EG!!! I just knew someone had something about it squirreled away in their hard drive, and somehow I`m not surprised it`s you! It really is gorgeous, eh! Every time I look at it, I see something new (and pat on the back to newbie Montrealer me for recognizing the tiled floor of the Lionel-Groulx metro). Like Peter, the shady lettering is my favorite portion.....or is it the mysterious fog-shrouded mountains on the Asian themed banner? Aggh! I love it all. Let`s see your photos EG! EvilGentleman: 21st May 2008 - 18:03 GMTThank god you clarified that, Jamie. I was about to tell you that I don't post those ones. And kudos to you, Montrealbunny, for recognizing the tiles of the Lionel-Groulx station. I had not noticed that, but you are very clearly right.
Turns out I only had one photo. I thought I had more... Anyways, I snapped it this past winter when I was walking by on Saint-Laurent. Your photos are much better.
Laura: 23rd May 2008 - 01:17 GMTThat is simply amazing work! The amount of detail that has gone into that mural is amazing..I bet I can't see it all either just through photos but that is all I'm ever going to see. Truely gobsmacking. I love the grey letters looking like they've been etched into the wall. Who did this production? Montrealbunny: 28th May 2008 - 03:18 GMTLaura - I know what you mean - those letters are truly mesmerizing! I googled the mural, but alas found very little on it. I hope this link works, but just in case it doesn't, according to the Montreal Gazette (thank you to Martin Ujlaki on Flickr) it was painted by Jasmin Guérard-Alie and Simon Bachand . http://www.flickr.com/photos/martin_uj/1891053194/ Or if you read/understand French: CE: 29th May 2008 - 20:43 GMTI could have sworn I had a photo of this too but after going through my thousands upon thousands of pictures of Montreal, I couldn't find it. it is possible that I missed it though. I never realised how many photos I had until I went through my iPhoto library roday!
