Le Splash!

- EvilGentleman - Wednesday, March 7th, 2007 : goo

Hmmm, the wind chill ouside right now is -30... OK, that's it! I've had enough of this damned winter crap!

Let me bring you back in time... way back... to July 1st, 2006. The sun is shining, the temperature is 27C (80F), and there are many things more fun to do than look outside at people running away from the cold.

I have taken my family to the amusement park to enjoy a beautiful holiday. While my son and his friends continuously wait in line, then ride the roller coasters over and over again, my wife and daughter cool off by riding along with my sister-in-law and her daughter.

Guess who gets to hold everybody else's backpacks, carny prizes and purses while the rest of them get to ride the rides? Yup, good old EvilGentleman, that's who. It is only with the deepest love for my family that I sacrifice my fun to stay behind and take pictures, while surrounded by a continuous stream of micro-miniskirt clad 19 year old women. The things I do for my family...

So anyways, I wound up taking a lot of pictures of Le Splash! in action. Everything happens rather quickly, so I combined pictures of several different runs to give a sequential picture of what happens when you ride Le Splash!

image 18738
First, the train takes you up to the top, not too high, but high enough for what will come.

image 18739
Then you start plummeting down the face of the slide, as people gather on the overhead walkway to share in the cool splash of the water.

image 18740
By this point, you are moving pretty fast, and it seems like a vertical drop when you are on the ride, although it is really only about 45 or 50 degrees of slope. You get ready for the...

IMPACT!

image 18742
Then the water hits the spectators, maybe a little faster than they expect.

image 18743
Exhilarated by the cold water, you pass under the walkway and beyond.

image 18744
Soaked to the core, you feel refreshed.

image 18745
And then you have to exit over the same walkway, pausing of course, to get soaked once more.

All in all, a fun way to pass the time on a warm summer day.

Thanks for the nice summer pictures. They allowed me to forget about the -30 weather that I have to bike home in in a few minutes.

EvilGentleman: 7th Mar 2007 - 02:26 GMT

Indeed. As my tires spin while pulling away from the stop sign, I remind myself that spring starts in 2 weeks, if I can just hang in there. We have some of the most beautiful summers here, so let it snow, the sun will melt it soon enough, and everything shall be green once again.

could you imagine riding le splash in -30 weather? BRR! :-0

great and welcomed pictures, are your children in pic #7. why is it that we enjoy looking at those lovely young girls. i'm a grandpa and i still look at all the girls and i don't have to go to confession about it. but as a priest once told me, God made everyone beautiful, inside and out and it's what is in our minds that only we know the truth that is there and when we know there is goodness there, then we can walk with dignity and truly be fathers to all children. that was for you evil, you sacrifice yourself for your family and that's what makes the MAN, nothing else.

Sirhcbre: 8th Mar 2007 - 03:33 GMT

I read today in the Gazette that it was -40 yesterday. Needless to say, I took the Metro today.

EvilGentleman: 8th Mar 2007 - 03:48 GMT

Naaaah, that's with the wind chill. The real temperature was -24. Wind chill is for wimps. We can tell for ourselves how cold it feels, all we need to know is how cold it is.

EvilGentleman: 11th Mar 2007 - 12:53 GMT

jack - thank you
Peter - I was just thinking about it, and at -30 degrees, le Splash! would be le Thud!
