When Milwaukeeans do their business, it eventually ends up at the treatment plant. Something magical happens to all that poo - something involving this constantly belching stack - it becomes Milorganite(tm)! If you're a golfer, chances are good that Milwaukee's diet has helped to make the greens greener at your favorite course!

On cold days, the smoke from smokestacks looks even more potent and portentious than usual. Here is one of my poems about smokestacks.

INDUSTRIAL TRINITY

Three squat smokestacks cinched
a little at the waist
will always evoke Three Mile Island.

Each exudes emissions so dense
they linger in the air --
lorgnettes of smog by which

the landscape, regarded
with cool disdain,
is judged and judged upon.

Hills incremental. Farmlands stuttering. Highways strung out like spittle.

Commerce is a potent aphrodisiac.
