Traces of Citynoise

like our host peter, i'm into . i ride in the city a lot, but i've always harboured ambitions of going further afield, from city to city. lawrence of arabia toured europe on a bicycle as a young man, and he's always been a hero of mine. since my own time as a young man is growing short, i figured it was now or never to try to crack this egg. over the winter i traded my junker in for a respectable hybrid bike, and i got an all-weather coat for christmas. once late spring hit, it was time to go.

since then i've been exploring toronto's bikeways and the lake ontario . in toronto, my trips have been guided by the , which i picked up for free at a local bike shop. as for the waterfront trail, www.waterfronttrail.org provides some pretty good info, though it can be challenging at times not to lose your way. the stretches outside the GTA are some of the most scenic and enjoyable, and can be reached cheaply and easily via the . the rouge hill GO station, for example, is located right along the trail, near the mouth of rouge hill park. darlington provincial park (near bowmanville) is perfectly located for an overnight stay if you're heading east.

these photos aren't in chronological or geographical order. they're from the waterfront trail between oakville and bowmanville, and the humber trail. to me, the theme seems to be traces of citynoise inscribed in the rural landscape.

the pickering wind turbine dominates the surrounding landscape. it sits just off the path, wooshing above your head as you go past.

i need to expand my vocabulary, because it's not enough to say these pics and you're story are awesome and inspiring. i love the anthropomorphic lampposts and cable supports.

nice word there ukraine, i looked it up, i wasn't sure of it but i was close enough. nice pic's jeeff, very brave of you to take a trip like that, when i was 22 i wanted to take a chopper and drive down to the tip of south america, but i had to wait for orders for nam, so i never went, instead i went to the inner circle, a watering hole in the 60's on third ave or somewhere around there and just hung out with friends and go down to the village on the docks and listen to some cool jazz on a hot night.

Fire

I looked out my window earlier this evening and noticed fire trucks flying down the street with their lights on. I ripped my camera out of my camera and jumped on my bike in pursuit of the trucks. About 5...
