July 4th

I just got a little hungry and walked to my refrigerator to dig around and see what was there for the taking; too lazy to heat up the leftover methi roti (or perhaps too hot tonight is more like it), I reached for the odd little cadbury bar left by some odd blonde dude from manchester that was visiting my flatmate's a week or so ago. It seems to be this odd bar of what looks basically like dried-foam sugar-water. It doesnt taste too good, and its composition reminds me too much of the morphology of the bones i see in x-rays at work. Not a tasty combo.

But anyway, I digress. I was up there, digging around in the dark. It seems that, right outside my wide open front window, a sizeable group of Dominican homies from the neighborhood were having the most chill stoop-party. Some kid- a little too fat to be wearing that sweat-stained beater and rapping about how much the ladies dug him, but cool nevertheless- was sitting on the railing spitting out what seemed to be some premium local freestyling; he was actually surprisingly good, his stutter of whispery science was making this crazy repeating syncopation. He was busily guzzling what looked like Genny Cream Ale between verses. So I kind of stood in the dark by my counter for a while, just listening to the vibe out there.

After a few minutes, I remembered my interest in what was in the fridge, and turned to open it up and take a look; thats when the fridge-light lit up, some guy out on the stoop said: "dude..., and it all went sort of hush.

So anyway, I'm back downstairs now, and a half an hour later, theyre shuffling around a little more and talking a little less hushed, and I'm basically kicking around the idea that what they did was very polite; its rare that stoop-parties are so considerate, and many is the night you'd wish they'd hush. But, in actuality, I'm quite bummed that they stopped. It was really pleasant those few moments to sit here in the cooler night breeze in my dark kitchen, hearing some muffled rhythm coming in from outside, knowing it was just some local kids who were getting together with their families for the 4th of July.

It was really nice. I'm glad that they were mindful enough to hush, but feel a little guilty for producing whatever stimulus it was made them feel like they had to stop.

Sorry, guys.
