in issue #4 of toronto's spacing magazine (www.spacing.ca), editor matt b. writes about hiking the green corridor that runs northwest from christie & dupont along the foot of the high-tension power lines. he describes it as a uniquely urban link between downtown and the humber river trails in west toronto.

saturday was one of those dog days of summer, when buildings seem to crumble under the sun's rays and frantic vegetation threatens to swallow the city whole. i had nothing much to do, so i slathered on the sunscreen, grabbed my camera, and set off to follow in matt's footsteps.

the first leg of the journey was split between tiny residential parks and industrial wasteland.

"what the hell is she doing up there?" i thought until i got closer. then i had to laugh. nice fashion sense.

i briefly got lost among the auto salvage yards north of st clair.

west of keele the view opened up to reveal rows of power lines marching toward the horizon.

then i reached the humber river, with a railway bridge crossing the gorge high above.

i stumbled across this arrangement along the riverbank, near eglinton. there were also a few sunflowers in the water, and a handful of pennies resting on the riverbed. i get the idea that there's some specific cultural reference here. can anyone explain it?

EvilGentleman: Voodoo, perhaps?

Chiamattt: The candles were lit when you got there?

jeeff: indeed they were

somebody wants to get knocked up. or they're feeling blocked creatively. the fact that you found it there is significant for you, too. something that was obstructed will be proceeding now in your life.

jeeff: hopefully it's getting rich.
