Beat-up Derelict Buildings in My Neighbourhood

- Jamie - Saturday, May 25th, 2002 : goo

shots taken in the vicinity of my front door, my street is virtually .

most of the buildings are , falling down or are in the process of being demolished, the pavement is often littered with rubble and broken glass, which isn't very car friendly.

sometimes there is a light on in this building although nobody lives there. most probably it is used by junkies.

I'm liking the black-and-white that youve been posting lately...

WildBritishStyle: 29th May 2002 - 19:44 GMT

See the white bit on the lamp post there? Guess what that is?

Peter: heh. stickers!

lisnaskea resident: 26th Apr 2004 - 04:11 GMT

this is such bullshit, this is a snapshot of two buildings on Cross st, Lisnaskea and is not a true picture of the town

Peter: 26th Apr 2004 - 13:12 GMT

well, after reading the part that says "shots taken in the vicinity of my front door, my street is virtually derelict" most of us reading from afar would percieve this to be a representation of the writer's street/neighborhood... not the whole town, you know? just thought i'd mention that...

Gene from Canada: 30th Oct 2004 - 01:29 GMT

I am intrigued by these photos. I'd like to know a little more about Lisnaskea.

jamie: wonders who lisnaskea resident might be

Peter: 21st Dec 2004 - 18:13 GMT

apparently, someone who isn't proud of being from lisnaskea... i suppose theyre pissed that you didnt post photos of the lovely cathedrals, magminimous works of art, the gold-paved streets or the happy, well-adjusted multicultural residents, huh? heh heh.

lisnaskea resident: 13th Feb 2005 - 01:39 GMT

Apparently!"shots taken in the vicinity of my front door" those of you reading from afar should realise there is only one front door(to recently renovated flats) on a street that is otherwise completely commerical buildings, not derelict houses but mostly ware houses. The old house with its "door kicked in" was where an old tailor used to run his business from,a long time ago and just to set the record straight i am very proud to be from lisnaskea, a beautiful little town in an even more beautiful county, why not take some pictures of some of the finer things fermanagh has rather than go for the shock value that 20 meters of frontage on a back street has to offer after all tourism is our second largest industry and i feel it would be more benifical to our community to promote our town/county than try to make us look run down

Peter: 13th Feb 2005 - 02:47 GMT

...or, you could take some shots yourself and post em here...?

jamie: 22nd Feb 2005 - 14:16 GMT

i'd love to se some more shots of the town if lisnaskea resident is willing

rachel: 1st Mar 2005 - 19:07 GMT

i'd like to see more buildings that are interesting and that have good pictures to go with them they are crap em 1's

Bumko: Top marks for spelling and grammar there lady

Jamie: 13th Mar 2005 - 08:20 GMT

I feel i should set the record straight a little with regard this article. I harbour no ill intent toward the town or indeed the people of lisnaskea or county fermanagh. I lived there for almost two years, and i certainly agree with the lisnaskea resident. Despite it's misgivings Lisnaskea is a lovely, quaint little town nestled in the heart of fermanaghs beautiful lakelands. Lisnaskea may not be a top tourist destination but the surrounding lakes and countryside; the raw natural beauty of fermanagh is something i miss dearly. Northern Ireland is not without it's problems but once you scratch through the bullshit, if your lucky, you can discover a real heart of gold in those there hills. I have some more stuff about my time in NI that I'll post here in due course.

Re: Beat-up Derelict Buildings in my Neighbourhood Id love to see more pictures of babes of Lisnaskea !!!!

Jamie: 20th Mar 2005 - 00:11 GMT

Many a day i spent in skea, idly daydreaming about fermanagh schoolgirls in short, short skirts. But we all have to grow up sometime. It just wouldn't do to ogle young girls anymore.

hasslehoff: 20th Mar 2005 - 00:13 GMT

photographs can be decieving. she's a amputee goddam you! though you wouldn't think it from the photo. just goes to show you i suppose.

Glenn: 20th Apr 2005 - 09:48 GMT

i live in lisnaskea and this is true....it is a dump...but who reallly cares? we have better things to be at!

Translation: 20th Apr 2005 - 10:33 GMT

we have better things to be at! = we have better things to do!

ballsack: a building can't really be derelict

Jamie: 17th May 2005 - 15:47 GMT

why can't it?

barry: 17th Sep 2005 - 18:34 GMT

I am Lisnaskea resident that left 10 years a go to come to new york. I was home in july (05) and the buildings yous are all taking suit about are down now and new commerical building were been build.Try buying real estate in lisnaskea now an you will see.I am moving home in the next year or two.(mess the fishing)

barry : Ps Jamie your a dick.

Jamie: 17th Sep 2005 - 19:46 GMT

surely you mean jamie you're a dick. You see you're means "you are", whereas your just means your. But more to the point why am i a dick as you so eloquently put it? I posted these pics in 2002; and that's what cross street looked like then. If the area's been rennovated then great, thats gotta be a good thing for the town and i applaud that. I certainly haven't been back so i obviously wouldn't have known that. Calm down mate.

some other points

1. The plural of you is... you
2. building were been build? surely you mean buildings were being built
3. the word miss is spelled M I S S
4. Are you in fact Barry from the BBC soap Eastenders?
5. You're a dick

elaine: you make me larf, j

ah: 20th Sep 2005 - 20:35 GMT

jamie im sure youre cool but knock off that grammar police bullshit.. either argue points relevant to the post or shut it

jamie: 21st Sep 2005 - 08:41 GMT

oh i think thay do barry. peter watches them. anyway, i always think it's quite amusing when lisnaskea people pop up here and get so angry that i dared to take some photographs of some buildings in their town. I mean; what exactly have i done or said to piss you people off? Perhaps growing up in such a confrontationalist society affects you in that way. But, ya know not everything is a personal attack. Sometimes things are just what they are. A bunch of photos of shit i saw.

p.s. you started the you're a dick thing did you not.

barry: 21st Sep 2005 - 15:33 GMT

Jamie I am not angry at you are your pictures.I came across this web site by accident when looking for soom information about soom thing at home.Anyway I seen you pic and read soom off your comments you had put in.I do think in the two years you say you were there you could of taken soom cool pic as i did in july.I travel a lot and like you take a lot off pictures.Mybe your only in to graffiti if so the south bronxs is the place for you.You think I come from a confrontationalist society. I don,t think so I had a good child hood there.I don,t think fermanagh is like that my be on up the north is as you seen. You are a city boy an had diffrent upbring than me.I came to NYC when I was 19 the best city in the world. You on the other hand came from london to a small town in ireland whats up with that.

jamie: 21st Sep 2005 - 15:43 GMT

i followed my heart barry. i fell in love with a fermanagh girl you see. but thats water under the bridge. i'm sure i speak for many people here when i say

"Dude, post the photos you took in July!"

And what about your experiences as a small town irish boy in the big city? We'd love to hear your perspective on your adopted city. Everyones welcome here. I miss Skea and Ireland as a whole. I'd love to revisit one day. Soon hopefully. My photos aren't an overall representation of the town or of Northern Ireland. It's a really friendly place as you know. If you can cut through the sectarian bullshit.

Hope you post some stuff from skea/nyc soon

jamie: 21st Sep 2005 - 15:46 GMT

ps. i wrote more about my norther ireland experiences in a more recent article here on citynoise citynoise.org/article/812

Peter: 21st Sep 2005 - 16:40 GMT

yeah, barry. we'd love to hear less lip and see and hear more about your experiences. if you dont like the way jamie has depicted things, do the place the justice of sharing your experiences there, for contrast.

as of now, hes the only one thats posted stuff about fermanagh. for someone like me, over here in nyc, his photos are the only vision of that place that ive ever seen. id be glad to see yours too.

barry: I posted some pic peter.

aer suzuki: 18th Jul 2006 - 10:21 GMT

wow that's alotta hoopla...over simple pictures too. very well shot, well composed images. i have to wonder what type of camera you used to get that bright glowing center vs. the darker halo 'round the edges of the frame, i really like the effect. well done.
