These are seen just off , the is waiting for the drawbridge to open so it can proceed on to the in Dearborn.

The two ratty looking boats are former , passenger craft that back in the day carried thousands of families to just off Amherstburg, Ontario. That's the Sainte Claire on the right, and the Columbia on the left. This photo was taken at a dock in , where these boats sat for years awaiting their fate.

The Ste. Claire has been sold and moved to another location for restoration. I think it is currently docked in the city of , just south of Detroit, mostly restored, and possibly open for tours.

The Columbia is rumored to have been purchased by a New York State nonprofit group to be restored and used for tours on the Hudson River.

Like many people in this area, I have lots of happy memories riding these to the amusement park at Bob-Lo Island. I would rather have one or both of these boats remain in service on the , but alas that seems to be out of consideration now. At least they will get a second life elsewhere.

cool shots, i've seen alot of ships like the one in the first photo but the other two boats are new to me...our ferries look sorta (and i mean only sort of) like 'em, but those have a weird design. they look like they'd have a hard time keeping an even keel, but i guess they'd ride lower in the water when full of passengers. i like them, thanks for posting.

Hello, aer suzuki! Yes, the design of the Bob-Lo boats is interesting. The Columbia was built in 1902 and the Ste. Claire in 1910, so I presume the design parameters are quite different from what would have guided designers of newer boats. I agree, they look like they'd be tippy. These are quite stable though. Perhaps it's the weight of the monster steam engines below decks, (which us kids could watch because there was no roof over the engine room).
