Enduro Racing
[previous] :: [next]this one probably qualifies as ruralnoise.
i was in my hometown over the weekend and got a chance to watch an enduro car race at the Delaware_Speedway
races usually involve a number of spin-outs and crashes, with immobilized cars pulled off the track only if they pose a danger to the driver, or the drivers of other cars. racers come mostly from the towns surrounding London and drive a variety of cars ranging from beat up junkers to shiny camaros. judging from the paint jobs, many have a sense of humour about their hobby. however there are plenty of sponsors and some serious competition.
the race i saw was won by dave goertz of Arkona, in the #15 camaro, after holding a short lead for most of the race. he's the current points leader in the division. there weren't too many crashes, but #27 spun out about 15 times, and a couple cars caught on fire. apparently at the last race there was a big fireball, but both races have featured fewer cars than the ones i saw a few years ago, with correspondingly less mayhem. i hope this noble sport isn't going into decline.
