Things I Hate About... Public Transit
[previous] :: [next]The second installment of my Things I Hate About... series. The first was about Traffic PUBLIC TRANSIT 1 - Strikes Feel free to add more... This article has been viewed 4904 times in the last 2 years Laura : 2nd Mar 2006 - 02:22 GMTHAHAHAHAHAH Oh so true, Hikerman. 22. People who stare Elicar: 2nd Mar 2006 - 03:53 GMT27. People who pour a bottle of cheap perfume just because it is easier than taking a shower. Nuff...I have a longer list of what I like... Peter: 2nd Mar 2006 - 06:57 GMTsome people give me flack about my BO. i cant help it, i was raised in saskatoon! elaine: 2nd Mar 2006 - 09:25 GMTit was me looking at your crossword. and reading your book. and listening to your conversation. Elicar: 2nd Mar 2006 - 11:30 GMTNo, Elaine, you were telling me what the answers were! Peter, that's a reveleation. I did not realize you had a BREAST OBSESSION. Tehee! grange: 2nd Mar 2006 - 13:45 GMT#34, People eating some strange suff that smells like it came from a third world garbage dump Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 2nd Mar 2006 - 14:25 GMT#38 perverts.
comiddle: 3rd Mar 2006 - 13:22 GMTSnifflers. I hate it, but I understand that sometimes you just don't have a kleenex. jack: 3rd Mar 2006 - 15:50 GMTno! there were two 34's. if we can't count then what do we have here but ramblings on and i hate rambling on because when you ramble onward then you miss the little cracks in the cement, is this #43 because if it is then im right and i hate being right all the timeand that makes 44 but these hates have nothing to do with the subject matter and i'm ranbling on, right...right.... EvilGentleman: 3rd Mar 2006 - 17:12 GMTGood grief... well, I started this, so I guess it is up to me to fix it. Jack has a valid point, and also missed the one just prior to his last post. By my reckoning, there have been 43 gripes listed thus far that are actually related to public transit. So that should mean that the next one should be #44. Anyone who fails to regognize the amended count will probably go unnoticed by 90% of us. Peter: 3rd Mar 2006 - 17:17 GMT44. the guy i see on my train almost every morning, who habitually carries on arguments with imaginary voices via his mobile... despite the fact that there is absolutely no connectivity in the subway tunnel. grange: 3rd Mar 2006 - 18:59 GMTRE:#18: How about the guy/girl that yammers at ya in forgien language like you understand , even after politly saying , sorry i dont speak your language .
EvilGentleman: 4th Mar 2006 - 20:34 GMT48 - People who make out in public And totally off this list, but relevant: A - Hypocrites anon (208.38.59.79): 8th Mar 2006 - 18:07 GMTMy number 1 pet peeve : Complete strangers who will sit next to you and blather on for the whole bus ride about the most ridiculouse things or mumble so that you have to strain to hear them (so as to not appear to not care about them ) . It has happneed so much TP me now I get so pissed off I just nod my head and dont listen and got off at the next stop and waite for another bus . GAWD I HATE THAT. Some times I feel like saying OHHH would you shut the f* up . I dont even know you and your annoting the hell out of me . kc: 8th Mar 2006 - 18:24 GMTMy favorite was...uh...10, garbage that rolls. There's always that sense of apprehension---you hear it, it's coming, what is it, is it leaking... mark: 8th Mar 2006 - 20:03 GMTWell I know most of these are all about the subway, but here's one for the many bus drivers out there. Drivers who insist on letting enough air build up to power a small mini into orbit and then dump there massive exchange as they pull up along side you from behind you (while your not waiting for the bus :-) EvilGentleman: 8th Mar 2006 - 21:01 GMTActually mark, I count only 4 or 5 items on this list that are subway-specific, and about the same number are bus-specific, and the rest are based mostly on the behaviour of the other passengers. In the interests of preserving the pedantism that jack and I are striving for, let me update the item count: So the next post should be #52 And jack... would you please post a few text articles? Your mind really enlightens and brightens my day. Besides, I think it is only fair that I have the opportunity to randomly comment with the word "pedantic" on your articles. If you could only see my silly grin right now... someguy: 8th Mar 2006 - 21:10 GMTi gotta second jack submitting some text. his writings always amuse me to no end. i read this site all teh time and never participate. im a major lurker. but i had to come out of the shadows to second the prompt for jack to write! Liz: 8th Mar 2006 - 21:32 GMT# 52 ticket booth workers who don't say "your welcome" when I say "please" and "thank you" elaine: 9th Mar 2006 - 08:34 GMTjack, you have become 'a danger to yourself and others' with this gratuitous pedantry. you *really* like it, don't you? it's like your favourite toy now. EvilGentleman: 10th Mar 2006 - 15:36 GMT54 - Drunk people vomiting on the bus or subway ksedge: 10th Mar 2006 - 16:56 GMTnot sure what number we're actually at but what about people who sing outloud to their ipods? GGP: 12th Mar 2006 - 17:45 GMT57-people who take their sweet time exiting the train so that by the time everyone else has cleared out and it's your turn to enter (because you are polite and wait for people to leave the car before entering, as the NY MTA announcements request), you're blocked by these oblivious slow-pokes who suddenly 'realize' it's their stop and then stampede you to race out before the door closes. p.s. I find the rolling things kind of funny...weirdly distracting and entertaining to watch people moving their feet to avoid the rolling things... Micah: 16th Mar 2006 - 15:09 GMTIn re: #46: Something like that happened in Edmonton last week only more brutal: a man was beaten to death by some kids on the bus, and there were apparently a fair number of people on the bus but no-one did anything, nobody stepped in to help. The bus driver didn't know what was going on until after the kids got off the bus. Why do people ignore each other? There's being uncomfortable addressing strangers and then there's complete lack of humanity. Or courage. minerva: 20th Mar 2006 - 06:43 GMT
I took this picture in Parkdale. I like fanciful signage. The picture "shimmering" is a happy accident. minerva: 20th Mar 2006 - 06:46 GMTOops, when I resized the picture, I screwed it up. This isn't how it's supposed to look. Oh well, I guess I'm no Hool. Liz: 23rd Mar 2006 - 00:31 GMTksedge: 10th Mar 2006 - 16:56 GMT not sure what number we're actually at but what about people who sing outloud to their ipods? GOOD ONE!!! Singing in public in general bothers the hell out of me, although I may sometimes be guilty of it . . . . Peter: 23rd Mar 2006 - 03:40 GMTliz: one of my co-workers sings aloud to her ipod. i hate it, and it hate her for it. its the most antisocial thing EVAR. id rather her pick her nose and wipe it on me, its that annoying and weird. EvilGentleman: 25th Mar 2006 - 03:10 GMTBut I think if we include champ's remarks, except the following: then the next post should probably be #67 Liz: 25th Mar 2006 - 20:42 GMTthe #1 thing i hate is when womans kids are being bad And when men's kids are being bad . . . ? and i hate hookers that come on the subway But you don't mind them anywhere else, I assume. naj a la plage: 26th Mar 2006 - 20:41 GMTlmao@peters co-worker #68 the unattainably beautiful working women on public transit who are totally uninterested in vagabond college kids like myself. jack: 26th Mar 2006 - 22:03 GMT71- drunk people who lay down across the seats when there are no more seats left. galaxy: 28th Mar 2006 - 06:29 GMTi was thinking about this thread today on the train when i realized something i hate about public transit...and that is when all the seats are full and someone has a bag on the seat next to them but won't move it because they think they're too good to have anyone else sit next to them. i also hate it when i touch the railing and it's greasy, from what i don't know but all i can think about is getting home to wash my hands with hot water and soap. EvilGentleman: 28th Mar 2006 - 14:39 GMTSince Catherine's #38, perverts, seems to refer fairly specifically to the weirdos who masturbate on public transit, then I think there is space for: 75 - anonymous ass-grabbers and other gropers Liz: 29th Mar 2006 - 20:19 GMT78 People who eat on the subway esp. when they lick their fingers. This is one of the grossest things I could possibly imagine, do people realize how many rails/handles/poles they've touched on the way on to the train? Do they have ANY idea how dirty their hands are? Any comprehension of how sick it will make them? Eww, just thinking about it gives me the willies, thank god bike season is back! Liz: 29th Mar 2006 - 21:17 GMTI hadn't, but thank you for that, I'm going to go have a shower now . . . Marsh: 9th Jun 2006 - 03:16 GMTOily sweat marks from the foreheads of people who feel compelled to sleep with their faces smooshed all over the window seaga: 26th Jun 2006 - 04:31 GMTone think i dont hate about riding the train in carring out my business on the nice plastic tinted mindow Susannah: 30th Aug 2006 - 01:17 GMTPeople who hold the door open so the train can't leave the station.
