This article has been viewed 3221 times in the last 3 years Jorge: 3rd Feb 2006 - 18:34 GMTWoohoo. Lets vandalize public property in an already poor country that needs upgrading in their public trains. Great job guys! Aren't there any walls instead?? idiots. cool-tsk: 3rd Feb 2006 - 18:49 GMTfor your information jorge theese trains were upgraded recently, and they can wash this of no problem and that's what they do.and for your information graffiti started in trains.as for vandalizem, that's your opinion,i think your to sensitive for this site, and as for lisbon beeing poor you come down here and check.the islands are poor wich is probably were your from Peter: 3rd Feb 2006 - 18:57 GMTthese remind me of dondi. i love seeing graf on trains... indeed, where graf started.
adam: 3rd Feb 2006 - 22:41 GMTthose colors are ridiculous.. i like.. i dont really consider a tag an art but graffiti is an art form. theres concept, medium and a whole range of style..
EvilGentleman: 4th Feb 2006 - 19:16 GMTMakes you wonder how smart they are, posing for pictures where their faces are visible while in commission of a crime. Just HAND the evidence to the cops, then wonder why you get arrested later. Smooth...
jack: 5th Feb 2006 - 01:04 GMTok it is or there is a rather small sence of artistic creativeness. but its their names they are promoting. because their families probably did not pay any attention to them so this is a way of striking out and exclaiming to the world, look, i'm here, i exist, i am someone. rather a painting, any painting in any museum is something that you can continnually look at and admire. there is beauty in art that the artist see's and wants to bring into the viewers mind. oh for pete's sake, graff is junk. cool-tsk: 5th Feb 2006 - 12:23 GMTEvilGentleman, jack:and obviously you two are losers who are jealous cause you never acomplished anything in life, but to sit looking at a computer all day,and bad mouthing people who actualy do something,do you two idiots even know what graffiti is?how long it has been around?you just got the whole world figured out a?two fuckin ignorants playing god.and obviously you two must be the only children in your family and you got all the atention in the world, that is why your so spoiled.and evil gentelman shows how you know so much, the cops can really find us thru theese pictures because they are sooooo visible,i been taking pictures like theese for years all over europe, and never been caught,at least i have traveled, where have you been?two jealous idiots, cool-tsk: 5th Feb 2006 - 12:30 GMTand to the editor ex graffiti man: 5th Feb 2006 - 16:43 GMTIts quite funny reading comments from jorge and the like. I've known several people take this line and yes, they too had never really travelled (a few hadn't actually been out of the UK), had any hobbies and thought they had a rather large IQ that warranted generalisations of the sort that would make most well adjusted people cringe...Kind of annoying really. jeeff: 5th Feb 2006 - 17:35 GMTcool-tsk - jack has been hanging around this website for a while now, and has left tons of thoughtful comments. he may not have the same perspective as you, but he's certainly no idiot. by slinging insults rather than discussing the issue, you're the only one who ends up looking ignorant. the question "is it art?" is one that continues to plague graffiti artists, performance artists, abstract painters, digital artists, etc. every new wave of art has to deal with its detractors and sceptics, but that's part of what pushes people to innovate. on citynoise we've had our fair share of "is it art?" arguments, and no doubt we'll have more. debate is part of what makes this site unique. if you can't handle that, you should find a different kind of forum. you might also be interested to know that some of the writers on www.dallaspolice.com cool-tsk: 5th Feb 2006 - 18:42 GMTJEFF ok it is or there is a rather small sence of artistic creativeness. but its their names they are promoting. because their families probably did not pay any attention to them so this is a way of striking out and exclaiming to the world, look, i'm here, i exist, i am someone. rather a painting, any painting in any museum is something that you can continnually look at and admire. there is beauty in art that the artist see's and wants to bring into the viewers mind. oh for pete's sake, graff is junk.
jeeff: 5th Feb 2006 - 18:55 GMTthanks, that's a much better comment. i agree with a lot of what you say, tho i like abstract/modern art in addition to graf, traditional art, etc. it's easy to say that something's not art because it's simple (like painting a green line on a canvas) but for me it all depends on how much thought lies behind the green line, and the quality of that thought. like check out elaine's article about indoor weather at tate turbine. i wish i could see that. and don't be too quick to dismiss artists who sell their work. artists need to survive somehow, to finance their work. for every "artist" who whores themselves out, there are dozens more who toil in obscurity and eat spaghetti-o's so they can do their work. jeeff: 5th Feb 2006 - 19:40 GMTbtw, love buff is a great example of simplicity in action even in graffiti art. Smartypants: 5th Feb 2006 - 21:27 GMTYou guys are all a bunch of losers - anyone who defaces public property should go to jail for vandilism - if you think you're so fucking artistic, put your ugly-ass art on some canvass that you purchased yourself and display it. By the way, anyone can make those stupid fat ugly setters with cheesy overly-bright spray paint cans and call it art!! Maria: 5th Feb 2006 - 21:36 GMTI have to agree - anyone can make big fat letters and call it art - I've seen really good modern art, and this is not art - it's big fat sprayed-on letters - that's it - and it's arrogant in its medium. I lived in Lisbon when I was small and the whole city was defaced with "grafitti" of political motivation - it was ugly and awful, and that's what this is!! cool-tsk: 5th Feb 2006 - 21:46 GMTSmartypants,Maria: kyuss: 5th Feb 2006 - 21:54 GMTthoose pieces are awesome, ignore theese people i tried doing graffiti before and i know it is hard, painting with a spray can isn't easy, specialy under pressure, obviously they never tried, they are probably pruppies jack: 6th Feb 2006 - 20:19 GMTcool-tsk why are you so angry? why do you attack criticism? you can't spell. your like the kid who can't get his way so you screem at everyone and pick up your toys and leave. you curse people out and make unfounded statements. you have no idea of what your talking about. you should talk to a minister or priest about your anger. get off your butt and do something with your artistic talents and go learn the elements of art. perhaps if you studied art a little you may come up with something really innovative. and please try to be a little nice to the people you talk to. Dave: 6th Feb 2006 - 23:13 GMTHey cool-tsk, wear a mask or hold the can a little further away, you`re taking in too many fumes. EvilGentleman: 7th Feb 2006 - 20:54 GMTcool-tsk, it is a shame that you wish to suppress freedom of speech when your chosen art form (and YES, I can see the artistic merit in your work) is all about freedom of speech. I have only made a point that I believe putting your face in a photo where you are vandalizing public property is not the wisest of ideas. I am not opposed to graffiti. I live in Montreal, where many grafitti artists are PAID to decorate run-down buildings, and they do an awesome job of it, too. You are mid-level taggers who may have the potential to develop into decent artists some day, but your designs are old, and your medium is so commonplace. New Yorkers would yawn to death. Why not try to ASK if someone wants to have their building decorated in a modern urban style, and then you can practice in the open, where nobody can give you shit for what you are doing? You could have your face in any picture you want with legit work, no fear of exposure. After a while, maybe you can get PAID to do this. Your hobby could pay your bills, if you go about it right. Have a nice day.
Lisboner: 24th Jun 2007 - 19:00 GMTHi! I'm an artist too. I've conceived a masterpiece which consists of 2500 Lisbon graffiters, painted with bright colors, hanging from the Tagus Bridge. That would be my way of honouring all this lovely kids that make my city so ugly. Now, cool-tsk, give me your best insult! Thanks in advance. It's a lovely insult...
