Chicago:
[previous] :: [next]
I was almost born in Chicago. And while I made the above image, I thought about the two times I vaguely experienced Chicago. The first time was this past August, driving out to San Fran in a blur. Lets just say I left NYC before dawn, and hit the south-side during the most terrible evening rush-hour traffic screening over one of the most lovely midwestern sunsets I've ever seen. I remember texting my girlfriend while driving on some road that had Calumet in its name; I think it reminded me of The Blues Brothers. The AM waves were crisp with everything from gospel to blues to housemusic, and there were tons of trucks on the road. The second time Chicago and I encountered, it was again as the sun set, but this time, we were driving smack through suburbia and up against the river which left us looking up through the windshield eastward at the amazing and gigantic skyscrapers looming and looming at us, protecting their territory, maybe even justly boasting, mocking my out-of-state plates. Huge. We drove on some highway, perforated every so often with Metro tracks and zipping trains. We hit the seedy outskirts as twilight fell; I remember gazing down from our elevated roadway, sneaking peeks down the side-streets for some sort of Chicago-action. So I've seen The Blues Brothers. I might even own up to Adventures in Babysitting, and definitely Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Trading Places and other such ilk. What are other Chicago movies? Hmm. I'd like to see a movie about crime and trains (and maybe music) in Chicago. I think I want to go to Chicago someday for the sole purpose of actually seeing Chicago itself. I will take Fonem, lots of Polaroid films and some spraypaint. Actually, what I'd really like to do is leave this piece of the World Trade Center at the base of the Sears Tower. I think that would be nice. This article has been viewed 3113 times in the last 6 years

EvilGentleman: 23rd Jun 2006 - 21:24 GMTSomehow, I think a trade should be brokered. That WTC piece should sit in a display case at the top of the Sears Tower, and you should swipe a few doorknobs or something from the Sears Tower, and toss them into the drying cement of Freedom Tower's foundation.
