Benny Farm: The Future Site of the Benny Square Condos

- EvilGentleman - Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 : goo

I passed by the area yesterday to have a look and see what had changed since my last visit. The original buildings that faced Benny Avenue are gone now, with only 4250 Benny and the one immediately to the left of it (which I went inside here) still remaining.

What I saw broke my heart. CONDOS! I knew they were coming, but to actually see the signs there somehow made it official.

Some of the original buildings still stand in the background.

The signage company was installing banners when I was there. You can see one laid out in the snow waiting to be erected.

A couple views of the back of the old buildings on Monkland, as seen from near the corner of Benny and Godfrey. The recently demolished buildings on Benny Avenue occupied the foreground.

One of the refurbished buildings on Cavendish, as seen from Benny Ave. Note the solar panel arrays on the roof. Also note the surviving communal gardens in the foreground.

The building next to 4250 Benny. I am not sure of the exact address, since someone seems to have taken the address off, possibly as a souvenir. This is the building I was exploring inside in 2006.

The condo development site is circled in red.

I just checked the project plan I had posted in my original article, and I seem to have misidentified the refurbished building on Cavendish in photo 7. The portion to the right of the snow stuck to the wall is an original building that was refurbished. The rest is actually one of the new buildings that has been plagued with problems.

good coverage evil. its interesting to see large areas change.

Drew: 26th Mar 2008 - 00:40 GMT

Thanks for your interesting posts evil. I am confused though. Which buildings are pre-existing and what has been built to-date?

EvilGentleman: 27th Mar 2008 - 18:27 GMT

Drew,

There is a diagram of the plans for the Benny Farm changes in the article that I posted in 2006. I hope it will make things clearer for you. Just click this link.
