Are they black and white for a reason? Just kidding nice photo's. Is this the same Birmingham that was the scene of racial uprising in the last century?

wow, beautiful city. are there rough parts of birmingham? because these shots make it look like a relatively idyllic place.

Yes...this is the Birmingham....where the tragic bombing "4 little girls" occured. In some ways, I think the focus of the world made most of us look at ourselves and re-evaluate our attitudes...thus dealing with the racil issue head on....unlike other cities. The city of Bormingham ranks as the 19th most liberal in america....but the suburbs are the opposite. Nevertheless, this is my childhood home...and the area...like any city...has some really rough parts. I wish I had more time on my visit to show y'all more...perhaps I will in the future. It is truly a wonderful city that lives in the shadow of its past. Currently, the city has more park space per person than any city in america...I believe that it is about 17 aceres per person. My only fear is that the city will be discovered by the rest of america in the future...thus driving up home prices and decreasing the affordability of my favorite city. I have a certain foundness for my quite and sleepy little home town...and a part of me wants it to remain the same.

this is a really really wonderful set. the pictures are so well-taken and the way you put them together gives me a great impression of the city, about which I had previously known pretty much nothing. Thanks much for this set.
I'm a little confused about the stats you gave - do you mean .17 acres/person? I'm surprised to learn that the park space to person ratio is the highest in the country, though I do believe it. I'm also curious about how the liberalness of a city is measured, though I imagine it is based on election results or the like. NY, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Cleveland, those are the cities I think of as liberal. Very interesting tidbit to know! Thanks again.

Novara. A City Around the Rice Fields in Piedmont

This is a rare little street of Novara.. ...and some friends of a street art contest. The next time I'll post some beautiful rice fields. I'll show you how's cool live in a city around a lot of rice fields.
