On the Brink

author: ian : Houston, TX

Across the street from my house. Polluted skies make for mindblowing, surreal gradients at sunset. The streets have been torn up for about 3 years now, as a massively overengineered storm drainage system is being installed after 2001's Tropical Storm Allison did several billion dollars of damage in the area. Almeda (shown) finally had the last bit of new concrete poured this week. Still wet -- so tempting -- but guarded by construction workers. This one is about a year old.. Going through my archives a bit and seeing if I missed anything that should have been here.

Going Up

People often comment on the fact that Houston is the largest city in the United States without ordinances, musing, "a developer could build a in your if they wanted." No one ever expects it to actually happen. This: Will go here: Twin 30-story towers right in the middle of a block of 1920's single family detached houses, across the street from a major park. No, it's not the first high-rise in the neighborhood (there are several other 30 story towers within a half-mile), but...

Not sure if any of you use "brilliant buttons" but I recently made a citynoise button for my website and thought I would share it with the community. You may use this button to link to this site, but of course, you'll have to host it yourself. If you are interested in making your own buttons, you can do so at the link below. www.lucazappa.com/brilliantMaker/buttonImage.php

Forlorn

I felt bad when I saw this guy this afternoon as he looked so forlorn. I felt worse for him when I saw his pictures on my PC because he really looked more forlorn. Kinda made me "sick" to see this...
