Across the street from my house. Polluted skies make for mindblowing, surreal gradients at sunset. The streets have been torn up for about 3 years now, as a massively overengineered storm drainage system is being installed after 2001's Tropical Storm Allison did several billion dollars of damage in the area. Almeda (shown) finally had the last bit of new concrete poured this week. Still wet -- so tempting -- but guarded by construction workers.
This one is about a year old.. Going through my archives a bit and seeing if I missed anything that should have been here.

 People often comment on the fact that Houston is the largest city in the United States without Zoning ordinances, musing, "a developer could build a skyscraper in your backyard if they wanted."

Twin 30-story towers right in the middle of a block of 1920's single family detached houses, across the street from a major park. No, it's not the first high-rise in the neighborhood (there are several other 30 story condo towers within a half-mile), but...
