Although the Kent Hotel appears to be long out of business, its wonderful retro sign remains.

In the Montreal borough of Lachine, at 32nd Avenue, I found one of those little travelling fairs that used to be the highlight of my year when I was a child living on airbases in rural Atlantic Canadian towns.
The ferris wheel rises above the mall parking lot.
A view from under the ferris wheel.
A different angle.
The Tornado.
For some reason, this seems like a sidewalk cafe on speed.
One of the pirate ships, a classic part of any fair.
Cotton candy, official food of the carnies.
Future bikers getting a head start.
Finally, who can ever forget the classic Tilt-A-Whirl?

The Canada Malt Plant is one of the most famous abandoned factories in Montreal. Most of what is left is a series of silos and a few scattered buildings and loading bays, all of which are completly covered in some of the city's best graffiti. These pictures were taken last winter and unfortunately we only got on the grounds around and between the silos. A future visit will hopefully take us inside the silos and be buildings attached.
This is the outside of the plant from the Lachine...

Hard to believe this is the entrance to a seafood restaurant on St. Paul Street in Old Montreal.
