Day 7 of the recovery effort is dedicated to removing the second flatbed container car from the bridge. The other railcars that were closer to shore from this one have been removed on earlier days. (see here and here
I spoke to some of the workers, and they told me that 1050 feet of the bridge suffered fairly serious damage, involving broken rails, over 1000 broken and damaged wooden railroad ties, some broken access ladders, demolished wooden maintenance platforms and other damage.
The major difficulty is the fact that the crane they are using (a contract job, their crane was...

As I walked around the scene of the train derailment yesterday, I noticed this RDI/CBC Newsworld news van had its connection panel open. Sure are a lot of holes to plug here...
This is part of the series on the derailment, but not specific to the derailment, so I posted it separately. The other pages are here and here
THe wire on the bottom leads to a camera on a tripod facing the derailment.
A closeup of the image above.

A view of the remaining rail...

I was in Kahnawake visiting my friends Mike and Jeff looking at the lift bridge over the St Lawrence Seaway as a train was passing over the bridge and on to Montreal. I left to go down by the bridge to take pictures of some of the graffiti on the bridge piers.
Little did I realize that the train I had been...

The city of Dorval, the Montreal suburb where I live, has a rather clear way of getting points across. I dunno how I could have missed taking this shot earlier, the view is from the end of the walkway to my door. Guess one gets used to things so they seem normal. These signs are all over my neighbourhood.
This pic is 22 minutes old. Yes, we have snow today.
