Warsaw in Different Periods - Staszic Palace

This time I`m showing different "stages" of Staszic Palace, the headcourter of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The building wes designed by Antonio Corazzi in classicistic style and erected between 1820 and 1823. First it looked like this: 1852: closer: Then in 1892-93 building was rebuilt by the Russians in line with the ongoing Russification of Warsaw (Poland still wasn`t independent country), architect Mikhail Pokrovsky changed the palace into Russo-Byzantine style building...it didn`t really match to that city :) but first they took down upper parts: During World War I (1915): After Poland got independence in 1918 the palace was renovated by Marian Lalewicz who turned it...

That bulding was erected in 1927-1930, designed by Zdzislaw Maczenski for Ministry of Religion and Public Education, (today just Ministry of Education). The building survived World War II cause Germans picked that place for headcourter of Gestapo police. Underground they organised jail that usually people didn`t leave. I know a man who spent there one night when he was 8 years old casue Germans were looking for his father. They let him go home next day but he saw and heard a lot...Today there is a museum in prison space, you can still read on walls inscriptions of prisoners. Inside...
