The 207th Street Yard is a rail yard of the New York City Subway system. It is located in
Northern Manhattan on the Harlem River north of the University Heights Bridge. It serves
as the home depot for the R40s, which are assigned to the A.
The 207th Street Shop is one of two heavy overhaul shops in the NYCT system and provides for the overhaul and rebuilding of most IRT division cars...

As a largely industrial waterway, the Harlem River has few access-points for boats, aside from
the handfull of the local college crew teams and boathouses...
This is what's left of the Flotilla Boat Club
At the far-northern tip of Manhattan, just south of The Bronx, which lies directly across the river
And down to the waterfront and dock area

Yet the yacht traffic continues, despite the passing...

I've gotta admit, I'm a sucker for those colors and lines
Although we've got 3-1-1 now, I kind of wish some of those "Recorded Information" lines still
worked. Anyway, I tried a few of the numbers just for fun... Suicide Prevention was someone's

and decided to scan it and post it here. I snapped it in the summer of 1995

Long Island and metro NYC from 35,000 feet. Pubished on page 156 of the book 'Man-made America - Chaos or Control?' by Christopher Tummard & Boris Pushkarev ©1963 Yale Press
Most fo NYC and all of Long Island can be made out in this high altitude photograph taken in the late 50s/early 60s.
Some details of note - Verrazano bridge has yet to be started in this view. In the larger scale photos it appears that the Chase Manhattan Bank downtown is in some phase of construction.
