In this city, in this world, just about everything is on the map.
But maps can't capture everything.
Barren Island is close, as shown on the map, but so far away from everything else in the city.
Its past--as the city's trash dump and rendering plant--is just beneath the surface, and always washing up.
If you are after treasure of a trashy kind, this is the place to go. Here's my stash, which I just gave away yesterday.
But you can make it there on your own. Just follow this handy google treasure map.

Cities are shaped not just by people, but by time itself. Even something as permanent as death is pliable to the drift of time and tide.
In this case, its the Jewish Eastern European community that once dominated East New York; where Jewish mobsters once held sway, and where my own family got their start in America—bakers, not gangsters. But they are all gone now, and likewise their memory fades, even the memory of their memory.
Bayside Cemetery is part of an huge grouping in East New York--just off the A-Train, you have probably seen it before on the... author: Peter : New York, NY
A traffic cop car with a traffic violation... justice is served!
Congratulations, Unit 7653 of the NYPD for showing us that cops are not above the law... or, at least one of them isn't.
Spotted in the west 30s somewhere between 10th and {12th) Avenues after checking out the High Line...
