Barren Island

author: CartLegger : New York, NY

In this city, in this world, just about everything is on the map. But maps can't capture everything. Barren Island is close, as shown on the map, but so far away from everything else in the city. Its past--as the city's trash dump and rendering plant--is just beneath the surface, and always washing up. If you are after treasure of a trashy kind, this is the place to go. Here's my stash, which I just gave away yesterday. But you can make it there on your own. Just follow this handy google treasure map. maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=118060197583294432954.000436990668a61ed3610&ll=40.579239,-73.892792&spn=0.013853,0.028925&z=15&om=1 Make Barren Island's treasure a part of...

Times Square

author: Cinic : New York, NY

I was in NYC last weekend for the RageAgainstTheMachine concert on Randalls island. Here is a typical tourist picture of Times Square. Since one of the guys we were with never saw NYC and since we really didnt have much time to explore we went to Times Square. I wish I would have more time to go explore Queens, next time...

Bayside Cemetary: Rememberance Overgrown

author: CartLegger : New York, NY

Cities are shaped not just by people, but by time itself. Even something as permanent as death is pliable to the drift of time and tide. In this case, its the Jewish Eastern European community that once dominated East New York; where Jewish mobsters once held sway, and where my own family got their start in America—bakers, not gangsters. But they are all gone now, and likewise their memory fades, even the memory of their memory. Bayside Cemetery is part of an huge grouping in East New York--just off the A-Train, you have probably seen it before on the...

Cop Gets Ticket:

author: Peter : New York, NY

A traffic cop car with a traffic violation... justice is served! Congratulations, Unit 7653 of the NYPD for showing us that cops are not above the law... or, at least one of them isn't. Spotted in the west 30s somewhere between 10th and {12th) Avenues after checking out the High Line...

I moved to downtown Montreal from Toronto last year (insert army jokes here), and this winter brought me some interesting sights. I didn't capture them all (like the cyclists laboring down the street in 5 inches of snow and near...
