I hadn't been to St. Andrews in eight years. I didn't see the passage of time much, except in the lines on my grandparents' faces. St. Andrews is an old Loyalist town on the Bay of Fundy. It's full of regal old clapboard houses and churches painted gleaming white, with the Algonquin up on the hill. Most of it owned by rich Americans. Funny what money can do. The wharf is new, rebuilt after a suicidal boat owner set the old one ablaze with a spark from his welding torch. His boat was being repossessed. The volunteer firefighters...
