So they started removing the old bridge on the 2nd of September.
Checking out the adjacent bridge (funny NOW they inspect it.)
We heard the tracked vehicle going by, he drove right up to the edge and started hammering away.
He hammered away for about a week.
Then this guy showed up and started to cut up the metal.
Then they started on the other side.
About 2 weeks later it looked pretty cleaned up.
Then they came for the median.
I was walking between campuses when I saw them pulling some of the last large pieces out of the water.
It took them about 20 minutes. They...

So I've been taking lots of pictures but that means I have to organize and fix (resize etc.) them. So these are from the 4th of September. They had just opened the bridge adjacent to the collapsed bridge. I had to take these shots through a chain link fence with lots of cops and signs saying "don't climb on fence" so sorry for the quality.
Still fishing pieces out (took another month or so.)
That's your typical sign that straddles all the lanes (probably 100' across.)
Lost little mileage marker.
I think there was some physics at play here.
Crushed train cars.
Imagine...

There he was . . . lurking in the window (he's gone now so I guess Elvis has left the building.) A hardware store, the real kind, not like HD and Lowes. Ya know with wooden floors and people who can answer questions and don't have to wear a dorky apron. I don't know why Elvis was in the window but you have to take the shot.

So we can park in our ramp now. They closed our building down the sunday W came by to look like he gave a shit which sucked cause I had work to do and couldn't.
That's my building, the ugly one on the left, I'm on the top floor.
It's just odd. I don't know what it was like at Ground Zero for people who had to work in the area but I wonder sometimes. They had to lock our floor because we're one of the buildings with some kind of view of the bridge and we were...

The building I work in is 50 yards from the bridge. I look at it everyday, I drive over 2 or 3 times a week. Two of my co-workers were here when it happened (one was on CNN helping kids out of the school bus on the bridge.) All we can say is HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!
Nothing you haven't seen on CNN or the web but it's right next to me here so it's pretty freaky. Guess I'll be posting the multi-year clean up and reconstruction pics too.

On the East Bank (of the Mississippi) campus of the University of Minnesota outside what used to be the book store.

In the gap between a parking garage and a high rise apartment building. Must be a tennis court around here some where.
