The first real summer day of this year (May 23 for Chicago, by my estimate) happened to occur during my week off from quantum mechanics lab. My boyfriend and I met for lunch in the Loop, where he had a summer internship, then I spent the rest of the day wandering the area, taking photos and enjoying the weather.
Wandering Chicago on a nice day >> spending 8 hours timing the rise and fall of oil droplets in an electric field in a windowless basement lab on a nice day. Even if you love physics.

This is the Major Byrd Hi-Rise. It was a housing project until a few years ago when some of the bricks started to fall off. Apparently it is cheaper to tear it all down and build less low income housing units on the same site, than to repair it. One of the last tenants actually had to be forcefully removed by the SWAT team. In last couple of years, the police and fire departments have also used it for some training. I always wanted to sneak in and check it out, but it was fenced off and alarmed.
The first shot...
