 From a collection of 'Picture Story Cards' put out by the Singer corporation's 'Society for Visual Education' division in 1966. Owing to the size of these I had to tkae them outside to photograph them so excuse the bits of reflectivity.

if you hit the roof button on the elevator three times in a row, it takes you up
but i never actually tried hitting it just once
so that could just be a thing people say to make each other look like dorks
or because they're superstitious.
it works better in worse weather, but i always thought if you looked straight out horizontally from the third floor it was easy to pretend you were walking 100+ stories from the ground in some futuristic city of science.

This summer I moved from Chicago to Honolulu. I'm homesick as hell.
This was home--the castle-like, multi-ballroomed, in some places disintegrating former Hotel Shoreland, also featured in this post. After this school year ends, it becomes condos.

I read that it was declared an eyesore some time ago and the only reason it was still around when I left (or even when I got there) is that because it's in the middle of the street, it's on the border between two aldermen's wards, and they couldn't agree on...
