To City Noise Editors,
I have recently begun writing articles for the Verdun Messenger's new English Corner segment. They cover Verdun's history and the people within it.
I thought your group...... Susan Schofield nee Hibbert: My Dad Charlie and his twin brothers Roy and Donny Hibbert were brought up on Melrose Avenue, Verdun their Dad was a police Seargant in Verdun from 1924 to 1936 am trying to find out...... anon (modemcable042.35-201-24.mc.videotron.ca): really nice car....the person should have got 4 tickets, and they should have towed the car to Verdun...... Juanita: What great pictures. Takes me back to my youth = 1926 to 1949 when I moved to california. Went back for a visit in 1975 but not since. I went to Wellington...... Montrealbunny: Ha! Ha! When I moved to Montreal I specifically looked for a home without those stairs. They appear precarious at the best of times, but have you tried climbing them in 4" heels? And...... T: Love the shots, brings back wonderful memories. I used to go to the elementary school across from the Verdun Metro.... Verdun is an awesome part of Montreal, beats the hell of Pointe St, Charles.... EvilGentleman: The areas bordering Verdun are pretty much the same, as well.
Pointe-Saint-Charles, east of Verdun, is historically Irish, and today is a mixed community where English is not a problem.
Ville-Emard, to the north of Verdun, has...... CE: Verdun is pretty bilingual. If you can speak a least some French, you'll get by no problem. It a nice part of town too. Very friendly.... Stevan: Hey, I'm going to Montréal next summer and I wanted to ask you if the majority of the people in Verdun is able to speak english... I mean, I've already had 2 years of french...... EvilGentleman: My hometown is {Kahnawake}, across the {Mercier Bridge} from {Lasalle}. I have been living in {Dorval} for the last two years, and I have also lived in {Lachine} and {Verdun}. I am also very familiar...... Marlene: Montreal is the best the city in Canada....and it wouldn't be any good without Verdun.... EL: You should see Verdun in December, every porch and staircase glimmering with lights. Gorgeous. Good shopping on Wellinton Street too.... EvilGentleman: We have both tended to focus on the area of downtown near Guy-Concordia metro, probably due to our being Concordia students. I also hang around with the native crowd in the west end of downtown,...... CE: I've lived in quite a few places since I moved here last August. I lived in St-Henri for a couple months but I live in Griffintown now which isn't too far away. I...... CE: It's too bad you didn't get to some of the more architecturally interesting stops. {Verdun}, {De La Savane}, {Vendôme}, {Villa-Maria}, and many other stops (especially outside of the older sections Downtown) are very beautiful...... CE: I used to walk this street (due to always missing the bus) every morning and every night for about a month before the landlord stole all our appliances due to a bounced rent cheque on...... carol: great picture.verdun is one of a kind i love verdun... Matt: you know its quite odd to see verdun this many years later,the only things that have changed are the newer models of cars on the street. you could put older cars in those pics and...... Chris Erb: When I was in Montreal, I didn't see too many main entrances that were full sprial staircases like the one above. Most of what I saw (Mostly in the [Plateau], I didn't make it...... EvilGentleman: Many of the winding staircases you see here in Montreal (although not this one) are in fact, main entrances. This is especially true in Verdun and the Plateau Mont-Royal. Just imagine having to shovel 3......
