Moebius Rex: That's funny--I've got a pic I took out here in SF's Mission district of the stenciled phrase LIVE TO LOVE right next to POST NO BILLS; I thought they made a nice juxtaposition (wouldn't it...... elaine: yes. although, to be more specific, i think time looks like the interpollenation of a moebius strip and a slinky... Jamie: [[goo:moebius strip]]?... elaine: i mean moebius... Moebius Rex: Not that anyone cares, but I just discovered that "I Got 5 On It" (see third-from-the-last pic, above) was a hit 1995 rap anthem by Da Luniz, a Yay Area hip-hop collective. The remix of...... Moebius Rex: It's actually really really hard to find trucks in SF that are as colorful as these. I like the FRED one quite a bit, but that last truck really blew me away.... Moebius Rex: Was in BKLYN this weekend for a wedding and was the houseguest of two very kind and gracious folks in Prospect Heights, which is apparently PET BIRD's home territory. And I have to say that...... Moebius Rex: dunno if this is a biiig deal, but it looks like the photos for this post were grabbed from a page of the Brookwood Cemetery Society website ([[http://www.tbcs.org.uk/railway.htm]]), while the text was swiped either from...... Moebius Rex: Sasha: I'm pretty sure it's at the intersection of 14th Street and South Van Ness Avenue. The fence is actually a gate into the repair yard of an auto body shop or similar company. The...... moebius rex: cool shot. those ominous clouds give the entire scene a sort of "underwater" feeling--as if you're not looking up at the sky but at the surface of a vast ocean.... moebius: wow, thanks jane, hool, peter. those remarks really mean a lot to me. :D
i've really been getting my photography bug back in action in recent weeks. expect to see more pics in days to come....... hool: props moebius, i really love this photograph, really well seen. it is what living in a city feels like.... moebius rex: thanks for the kind words. i aim to please! there will be new pics (graf & otherwise) soon.... moebius rex: more on thesis' career as a rap artist.... moebius rex:
you know, i've been meaning to mention that i've tracked down some info on the graf writer behind pic #3 (and pic #4 here). his name is Thesis, and according to what i've dug up...... moebius rex: lovely apocolyptic... moebius rex: thanx. it's my sign, on a sign. i hadda take a shot!... moebius rex: beautiful composition & color, thanks.
there are a few interesting red doors near me; soon i'll get around to posting my pics of them.... moebius rex: i know this piece. whoever made it has placed a few others in select spots across town. thanks for grabbing a shot of it!... moebius rex: sorry for taking so long to respond to this: yes, that's a large sheet of paper, pasted onto the pillar probably with a simple adhesive solution. on the opposite side of the pillar there's another...... Peter: i think its a sticker... this should be what it looked like before, heh.... moebius rex: oh, i love this building. my good friend Kendal lives just a few blocks from it. the last couple of times i've visited nyc, i've stayed with her. i quickly developed a ritual of starting...... moebius rex: i like the way that "las vegas" is faded and peeling at the top of the 1st photo. the graf pieces are nice, too.... moebius rex: my favorite aspects of that photograph are the twin rows of differently colored windows. actually, if the sign were missing it would be a beautiful abstraction of boxes.... moebius rex: hmmm. whoever paints that white kabuki face from your top pic sure gets around....... moebius rex: hm, i should've said krylon icon, no "k"... moebius rex: peter--i like the way you focus on detail and divine a sort of abstract visual poetry out of a larger piece. it's interesting to see the areas where erosion has revealed the brick underneath. the...... hool: moebius: tis digital. olympus e-10, it's a digital slr.... moebius rex: a fine photograph. love the detail, composition, texture. was this taken w/film? or digital? i'm curious about what sort of camera and/or film you used.... moebius rex: hey, i didn't know there were caves above ocean beach. i like this perspective.... moebius rex: i'll always love toronto...it's one of my favorite north american cities. this photo reminds me of some good times i've spent in toronto high-rises.... :D... trouble: well worth the wait moebius.... moebius rex: aww. you guys figure out all my secrets! :D
bonus shot is here. i was gonna include it but i didn't want to overwhelm everyone. i was saving it for next time.... moebius rex: more pics on the way...i took over 100 of 'em that day. this is just the first batch. and if you liked that 3rd one, there's a "mate" to it also--same style.... moebius: ...reminds me of the history of a San Francisco entertainment palace that also went down in flames: the Sutro Baths.
