tristan: I hate it, this is not right for the financial district of Canary Wharf, better placed in Piccadilly!... Dawn: It's found on the Heron Quays roundabout near Canary Wharf... Anonymous (reverse.51.219.213.in-addr.arpa): I did forget to say that it was London, in case lil isn't local.
If you wanted a more accurate location it was taken around here, looking towards canary wharf (obviously).

Peter: see up there above the photos where it says ##"a few photos from the Isle of Dogs, to the south of canary wharf"... elaine: yeah, it's the isle of dogs which is somewhat east. it was bombed and it was docks so one way and another it was pretty run down and the canary wharf and chums buildings were...... ian: Is 1 Canary Wharf outside the city proper, then? It's much taller than that, is it not?... Peter: i dunno about that, jon...

It takes its name from sea trade with the Canary Islands, whose name comes from...... jon: I don't think orgainally Canary wharf had anything to do with the Canary Islands, it was orginally a wharf for importing birds, so it actually was named after the birds !... elaine: ta, jack. of course, as it is a gasworks it is very definately not ##on## the water... that would be tres dangereuse. recent canary wharf pic [[1842:here]] and there are two more gasworks articles [[920:here]]...... elaine: on that google i found [[http://www.transki.co.uk/walk/dogs.htm]] where i learned that canary wharf has nothing to do with canaries, but is all about ##dogs## the latin for which being canariae ... elaine: fuzzytank - lets take your last comment first... would be my guess
lots of bombsites from WW2 mainly shape the higgledy piggledyness of london - after the big fire, that is, and there was a bomb...... ian: I have mixed feelings about Pelli's designs, but in particular, I've always thought Canary Wharf was a bit of a chubby skyscraper. Feels like an extrusion of a soulless suburban office park. It's severely lacking...... elaine: and then again, canary wharf has to be E14... elaine: nice! i've photographed canary wharf loads of times, but never got anything like that kind of look going, it's kind of retrofuturist... elaine: did we lose steelisreal? i feel sorry if you hadda rely on me, you will be thinking london is all E2, and the visual equivalent of shoe gazing... this is not good. though I can...... elaine: Less than funnily enough, just post 9/11 I was teaching just next to Canary Wharf in Docklands which was thought to be the natural UK target, and I was extremely concerned about my students......
