The Waterside

author: Jamie : Derry, Northern Ireland

I'm reminded lately of the younger, more carefree me of a few years ago. It seems like another lifetime but i'm thinking back to 2002 here. I lived in Northern Ireland at that time and i used to travl around, a lot. And i'm remembering a time i was sent to (London)derry on a job. I'm reminded by a photo i've just seen of a mural. Loyalist mural based on the 'Eddie' character used by the group Iron Maiden. cain.ulst.ac.uk I didn't take this photo, but i have seen this mural first hand. I wish i'd taken photos of stuff like this....

Wherefore ART Thou, Ellis?

author: GGP : Brooklyn, NY

The amazing Ellis G struck Bergen Street, near 4th Avenue, one evening last week. It's always fun to come upon this artist's chalkwork on the sidewalks of Brooklyn, but the visual "echo" of this motorcycle, outlining the strong shadows cast by the streetlamps at night, was especially stunning to come upon. It was like some kind of reverse eclipse, or a golden aura around the valley of the shadow. Only the first shot, taken w/o flash (w/ contrast tweaked in Photoshop), captures the weird effect of the shadow edged with yellow chalk. The others used flashed, which washed out the shadow,...

Paterson Factory - May 2002

author: adam : Paterson, NJ

this factory opened in 1898 and was closed in 1978. everytime they dyed fabrics, the paterson river would change color. there was a lot of red tape in selling the property so it took years and years to do, in the mean time it was a great place for people to graffiti and explore. 2 weeks after i took these pictures i believe they started demolishing the place and the lot was going to become a home depot.
