Subway tunnels are odd and uncanny places. A Penticostal man in my neighborhood says if you look into the tunnels, you put yourself at the whim of evil spirits... Some people avoid looking out the windows of traincars passing through tunnels; they avert their eyes to the bright advertisements, or peruse the crowd within the car, careful not to make eye contact...
