Previous Day :: Next Daynick: great piece...ridehard JayEastsider : i thought that picture was sorta like riding off into the sunset Akira: Any particular reason why it appears that everyone is black? was it some kind of convention? jeeff: whoops, i meant to link this entry which has a photo of the old tent city site. jeeff: i really like the 'i was getting hungry so i decided to split' pic. GGP: we are already living in the for-profit future. Peter: hells yeah! they sued to sell old english malt liquor in 64 oz. jugs here. heh. JayEastsider: 60 oz jug with a straw please ;>-()> Peter: yeah! go for it! JayEastsider: i was thinking about documenting the walk i have to go through a ceedy neighbour and it is piss raining here and thought might be interesting but all a sudden i'am feeling like having a beer again so i might go up to this really, really thugish bar and sneak... elaine: are you going to document your hairdo? JayEastsider: sounds like a good idea elaine maybe a jeri curl elaine: go curl JayEastsider: i know all the thugs and thieves in the neighborhood and betty is a bit of staple there so i don't usaully worry about it to much i am going get hair cut soon so i might do a little hair cut documentry Peter: heheheheh :D :D elaine: ...and then head back to the squats to see what's up, and if the acid trippers have done any more painting ; ) JayEastsider: i used to ride my bike right passed tent city i wish i would have snapped some pictures before home depot decided to completely level it Peter: 1. if i lokced my bike up like that in nyc, especially with quick releases, id come back to a bike with no wheels :)
2. where oh where can i get a 60oz jug of canadian beer? hot damn, that would do me right just about now.
sounds like a good... Peter: im not trying to rub it in or anything, but damn, am i glad nyc didnt get the 2012 olympics... :( Peter: interesting! sometimes, the comment threads are as interesting as the posts... nice. Peter: read the comment above yours, doye. Peter: what gangs? elaine: but it's probly gearing up, like bethnal green, for the boom of the olympians. maybe it is a coincidence, but there is an awful lot of bulldozing going on right now elaine: cool as mints JamJar: Hackney wick is amazing, like nowhere else in London. A really quiet, industrial, almost abandoned air Anonymous (reverse.51.219.213.in-addr.arpa): I did forget to say that it was London, in case lil isn't local.
If you wanted a more accurate location it was taken around here, looking towards canary wharf (obviously).
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=538288&Y=179949&A=Y&Z=2 koren crow : what is all this pictures suppose to be, I mean I get the bullet proof glass whats up with all this stuff. jeeff: squatting doesn't have a great track record in toronto (or north america in general i think). we had the 'pope squat' but it got shut down a few years ago. (www.ocap.ca/ocapnews/pope_squat.html)
and then there's the tent city. ooh, i just found a good overview of squatting in canada:... jessie red dog : I just think that these gangs are all ridiculas it's just so childish. But I like the pictures! elaine: when do we move in. and i want a dog Peter: totally. those two middle houses look really cool. elaine: ripe for squatting? jeeff: i used to live right by there. i think with so many low-rent high-rise apartments in the st. jamestown towers it makes it hard for landlords to get a decent price (and a decent tenant) for these old houses. JayEastsider: thanks for the link peter i really enjoyed the photos, jeeff i think it would be cool to have like an art exibition filled wih photos of abandoned bikes i always look at them and think that somebody bought it! that drove it! loved it! and just walked away for... JayEastsider: i found these houses by accident when i decided to take short cut off bloor st. e they are located at bloor e and sherbourne it was a small street but all the houses where boarded up i still wonder why? adam: oh man! when i drove cross country we stopped at the botanical garden but didnt go in.. didnt feel like spending the money.. its a cute city but i couldnt find shit to do there.. the historical part was nice looking but totally beat.. unfortunately every city in america rebuilt... elaine: it gives the flavour, though Peter: see up there above the photos where it says ##"a few photos from the Isle of Dogs, to the south of canary wharf" hill: perfect. lil: where is this? Jamie: i hope to visit india some day. great photos Peter: totally. that was my favorite also... jeeff: wow, even the seat. that's dedication. jeeff: it's not the city. the public space committee is a private group. some people say they're "vigilantes". they definitely have the diy spirit. jeeff: yeah it's surprising how many boarded up houses you can find in otherwise bustling parts of the city. on the bright side, i've seen a few rehabilitated since my arrival in the city. jeeff: wow. i especially love the one with the tall building framing the bright muddy water, 6th from the bottom. so cinematic! jeeff: yeah, it's definitely a fine line to walk. aside from the logos everywhere (and having to present your card to get in??? that's crazy) it sure is a nice opportunity to relax in public space. i've seen a lot of big open-air concerts and things too. ... JamJar: Shame hackney wick 2 is so underexposed, my train was coming tho elaine: good! nice to have you back JamJar: The powers of a misty sunday afternoon, mmmm JamJar: Not just a one shot wonder :p mystik one!!!!: fuck the beef!! and get up!!!! Peter: classic! Peter: abandoned bicycles of new york:
jschumacher.typepad.com/photos/abandoned_bikes Peter: heh, i know that one on st. marks! :D Peter: wow, i bet those were some fine houses in their day... Peter: ian... breathtaking. thanks! ive been waiting to see some of these for quite some time- wha ta different world! wow! Peter: wow, that second shot is great! Peter: many of us new yorkers are disgusted by this increasing commercialization of public spaces, actually... gaelletragique : The fact the news-paper inside has "Va Va Va Vroom" on the front page mingled with the tragic caved in red news-paper machine is just fantastic.
It also looks like a sad knocked-out Robot praying on his last mega-byte. kc: I can't deny I benefited from it, since I don't have cable and wouldn't have seen the tennis otherwise. But the park isn't very big and there were related events at the other end, so it was like the corporation had taken over the whole space. That park now has... oscar GLEZ: A VECES EN LA VIDA TE ENCUENTRAS TEMAS COMO LA HITORIA DE DON JUSTO QUE HACEN A TU MENTE CONVENCERSE QUE TODO VALE LA PENA. ME LLENA DE ORGULLO QUE SEA ESPAŅOL Y ME RECUERDA UNO DE NUESTROS GRANDES DEFECTOS NACIONALES. NO APOLLAMOS A NUESTROS HEROES... COMO OTROS GRANDES ESPAŅOLES... JayEastsider: wow great pictures i have never personally been too detroit but i had a friend who lived there for a year and she said quite large areas of the city are in urban decay. i was just wondering if detroit is trying to fix them up? JayEastsider: wow i had no idea there where so many different flavours of kit kats i feel so deprived living in toronto. i should email nestle and see if they can make a special canadian maple syrup version JayEastsider: now i just see the shoes as one big shitty pile JayEastsider: That comment about dog shit and everything made me laugh I never really thought about like that before. For now on everybody taking off there shoes when they come to my house elaine: loamish elaine: nice work, neighbour JayEastsider: I am surprised to read that the city would shell out and buy this person a new bike. It's like the bike in the third picture you can obvoiusly tell the person has just said fxxk it and left the bike to rot in urban hell jeeff: i've noticed a lot of sponsored events like this whenever i've been in new york. it's natural with such a concentration of resources & people. but i've always imagined that new yorkers must take this kind of thing for granted quite a bit. even in toronto you'd... jeeff: unfortunately there was a bit of controversy. they staked out the seemingly abandoned bikes for about a month beforehand to make sure that they were fully abandoned. nevertheless, after the first round of painting they received an angry email claiming one of the bikes. the guy said... Steven, Toronto, Canada: Peter,
I am looking for a specific internal subway car image for the front of my new jazz CD 'Stand clear of the closing doors'. Is there a way I can get in touch?
Steven
JayEastsider: Thanks for the links Jeeff I recall seeing some of these bikes before jeeff: nice, i really like the gloom. it's heavy. jeeff: this is probably a good place to mention the toronto public space committee's (www.publicspace.ca) 'pedals & paint' campaign. they paint abandoned bikes bright colours. here's a write-up:
biketoronto.ca/topic/show/397.htm JayEndSTER: Sorry dude the pictures just look like what a tourist whould take of any other European City (very boring) ;0- JayEastsider: Jeeff you see the 4th picture the one where you can see my legs that was taken in front on New City Hall. n3k0de: Hey i found some gay shout online....
http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottobear/30766496/ heh: naa it looks like uncle Tom JayEastsider: These houses/buildings are actually located in a prime real-estate area in downtown Toronto. There was actually more pictures but I must have deleted them. JayEastsider: I never really never thought of it like that, but your right they do seem to melt and disappear after time. I wonder if the city has a special department for this Previous Day :: Next Day |
