ps. what you really need to check is the cross bronx....I just recently heard about it...i will check it out myself tonight steelisreal: oh you live in hoxton. i went there once for a damien hirst exhibition. i lived in the west end cause i wanted to be near charing cross for the bookshops and it was close to my work. I loved the flats in the east end but... Jon B: DP.com that site is old...and yeah anything is better than that dallas city hall shit. All they do is bluff and threaten to catch all the graffers.I bet they won't even go through with the graffiti abatement Peter: totally. i found out about that site cause theyve reposted lots of photos from here. which is cool. jeeff: ha, that's great! i really like 'switchblade comb' Peter: hahaha totally. this site is alot better: www.dallaspolice.com jeeff: wow, that's a truly shitty webpage. Dallas graffiti abatement...
The City of Dallas has started a new graffiti program today. It's the same program that the City of Phoenix, AZ has. It includes solar powered still/video cameras with flash, Power washer trucks, and a special division of the... Peter: yeah that tandem trackbike is the first thing everyone noticed when they come in! Balloonhedz: thanks for the kudos :-)
I hope the renovation includes serious exterminator work..Im sure theres lots of critters there to be dealt with. Unfortunately the gentrification is whats making the area attractive. colavito's ghost: What a cool- and fast-looking tandem. I've never seen a tandem track bike before, wow! Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Sheila, I got the shot from my office windowhere and went out one drunken night and got these. Glad you liked NYC. It's a hell of a place.
jorge: qierp aprender saveis alguna clase por jerez Sheila,England - 4th Nov, 05: Visited your fantastic city in June - what a place! These photos are just awesome!
It is a beautiful building and seeing it from higher up is amazing! Bring on Grand Central! jeeff: is that a new 'illegal graffiti crue' tag? i remember seeing one on here before. elaine: well, i guess it's tricky getting men to want to get tested, so if you can help them identify with someone who is a role model or a "desirable" commodity i suppose it might work... elaine: little handies...
Peter: though imagining biggie getting tested for prostate cancer... thats another mental image entirely... elaine: hahahahaha!!!!! Peter: no, after burnout comes the good runner, heehehehe... elaine: fab! imagine someone turning up on your doorstep with curry and tea already made and on a tray? it's like a dream...
thanks, catherine, for your kind words, and you are right about the site, it has been my lifeblood over these past months elaine: looks like it to me, but then, i am a clinic full of cynics Catherine Penfold-Waxman: I also read the eye of the storm and I'm blown away. I've been enjoying getting to know you guys through your pictures, stories and comments. This is a wonderful, human site, where we all inspire each other.
Elaine, after burnout comes refuel. Then you'll fly higher than ever. And if... Peter: the guy in the billboard on the second photo reminds me of biggie for some reason. i wonder if that was intentional?
elaine: heh, well, i'm nothing if not consistent! elaine: nice looking site Peter: heh! so true. Peter: ahh, i love that entry. thanks for the link- it prompted a reread :) Catherine Penfold-Waxman: If it was in Manhattan you could get away with sub-letting it. To a family. Of five. elaine: see also eye of the storm Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Yeah, I've been posting some Astoria, Queens stuff as New York (which it is) but I'll be more distinct in the future. Astoria Rocks!
And if that Teddy is still there when I get home, I'll take it, (wash it) hug it and call it George (or Jesus). misspick: this is simultaneously hilarious and sad. nice score. Peter: ill see what i can do. its hard to get good shots of moving quarry with the cameraphone, but theyre numerous enough- as are stop-lights, so maybe ill get lucky one of these days, heh. elaine: i want one Peter: thanks elaine! a personal/partial/summary is exactly what i was looking for :)
neighborhood vibes are interesting. we have proximal areas that sound just like those places here in nyc... elaine: i quite like seeing teddies on a garbage truck, it makes up a bit for the pong
hey, peter, how about some pics? elaine: hum. west end is where the theatres and big shops are and tourists go and the queen lives. not that many people live there, but it would be good to live there if you were young and wanted to go out all the time. there are loads of different localities... Peter: beats being tied to the front of a con-ed/garbage/delivery/fresh-direct/cargo truck, heh! ever see that? its like every other delivery/work truck has a stuffed animal, doll or mask on its front. its weird.
also: i really like that youre representing queens on here, as we havent had much content from that borough.... elaine: poor jesus misspick: It's a shame that this is all that was showing and I knew it was someplace in NY, lol jo r lucas: go brooklyn!! roniah: i love this pic sooo much i love how the rust colour is kinda dripping and matches the red bricks were are awsome outlined by the white surrounding it and the bright blue sky such beauty in the every day grunge Peter: this photo is brooklyn, in a nutshell. Peter: totally absolutely great. these look so nice. a slice of life. i, for one, also cant wait to see more! elaine: not to worry steelisreal socialist, i will do it, just not right this very moment. it's not a massive bother, but i am not always terribly mobile. you are right, it's not very very far, but it isn't on my usual beat, and i am a dreadful localist. however, i... Peter: its like an indoor treehouse! Peter: what are the differences between neighborhoods in the east/west ends? Peter: wow, this thread gets more and more interesting every day! Peter: heh! Peter: so, when you pronounce it, what does the letter "Ø" sound like? Peter: nice shots, jeeff!
butcher shops- at least their back/work areas- always have a look of a woodshop. gleaming metal saws and hardware, etc. Peter: i read about that in the paper- nice shots!
as a tangent: i hear the "western beef" on 14th street (on the left in the first photo) is going to close early next year, and be renovated as luxury office/condo space.
chalk up another old nyc neighborhood to gentrification, i guess... Peter: i like posts like this- news items.
sorry about the shooting, though. apparently, thats pretty rare in your part of the world. keep us posted...? SadStateOfAffairs: CAPS meetings are helpful. You hear first hand from the police and the neighors what is really going on and what they are doing to try and help.
I've attended the CAPS meetings - I will give them credit for doing something and no we did not get hassled for attending.... steelisreal: well where do you live?? I never really considered anything far in london. oh well i was just asking
sorry to bother you. Xaostica: Am I the real neckface? No. I'd pay a dime for one of his drawings, I find his work crude. It reminds me of a kids sketch book displayed onto buildings. Kinda cute but nothing I would hold against him.
Your right about graffiti, cept it's not just "graffiti" thats bad.... Peter: all i know is that the sign pictured above says "cunard white star lines" on it.
as if it matters. elaine: it's a cool solution Norway.: Hello elain.. the bed place on this picture is called "hems" in norwegian language... This is a very smart solution if you have a small 1 bed room apartment where you have high ceiling... you get more space arround you.. below your "little bed room" Amy: And the colours . . . the colours are totally exquisite.
Bring it on! Amy: How pretty. Smoke is amazing. calculated: anybody bomb anything besides freights and sound walls in pbc? elaine: i used to live in dundas street in edinburgh elaine: what! you want me to go all the way to the west end??
Peter caine: Xaostcia- Wow I been acused of writting crazed diotribes (spelled Phoneticly like a Grafti artest) but Wow! your nuts. Are you the real neck face? Im not attacking you, you just seem like the real thing.
No young chicken chit Grafit artist that runs around in the middel of the night... Laura : An amazing time capsule. Keep 'em coming! steelisreal: will you do me a favor and go take pictures of my old street and flat building???? please please i miss london and have nothing to remember where i lived. it is #6 st martins lane, you know near leicester square across from browns
my email is socialist@gmail.com Laura : So many textures! Its beautiful. Laura : Love it Catherine Penfold-Waxman: "Partially possessed by Satan"?
