Previous Day :: Next Dayadriana b: yo city ain't pretty no where no how but if you say so.... adriana b: man change ain't ever gone come i dont care what beanie seigal say dats the hood and that's all there is to it. im from there i should know
adriana b: chea been there done that and i'm ALWAYS go have love for my hood. adriana b: yeah im from the phil but i stay in cali
ma hood so grimy wit it ..whhhhhh
Peter: hehehehehe :) vroom!
i like giving tersely cryptic taxi directions... turn left at yellow flat fixed. make a right at broken no parking sign then left to large bush. Peter: Crayon: im not exactly sure what correlation youre making between ignorance and graffiti. sure some writers are ignorant. some arent. plenty of non-writers are ignorant, some are not. i guess i dont get your point, as (to me at least) youre making a correlation between apples and oranges.
generalizations like these... elaine: well yes, you got me there. this is around the corner from me and it's sloppy signage usually pisses me off. the only thing it is good for is when giving directions to taxi drivers (it's near where there used to be a texaco garage) but today i looked at... Crayon: Well Peter, I see the term "artist" being used quite a bit on this post in reference to taggers. I'm just going by this fact.
If the folks writing on this post are an indicator, I feel it is quite safe to assume a large portion of them quite "illiterate", and... Peter: id have to say that i believe that theyre referring to the washing of a car by hand.
but just to play along, let me toss out the idea of a hand TRUCK:
:)
Peter: Crayon: im afraid you might be making some overblown (and rather novice) assumptions about the average graffiti writer's motivation. for many- especially these "taggers" you speak of- it has nothing at all to do with "artistic ability", "art" or "creativity". its more about "recognition".
im not sure the average graffiti writer's... Catherine Penfold-Waxman: feet car like Fred Flintstone? Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Amazing writing. I want to read more. adam: hand car = british
feet car = american Crayon: The point I think a lot of you guys are missing is that the majority of taggers have just about no artistic ability. If they did, they'd be making a living at their "art". They certainly show no creativity. It's the same old crap, even with graffiti. What we have... Peter: ...then it shouldnt be so hard for someone to post flicks of his new shit. ive only been asking for months, hehehe. MERKO: ja is a all city king
Anonymous (82-46-144-198.cable.ubr02.perr.blueyonder.co.uk): JA IS A DON spooner: Bobby Sands and his 10comrades have gone down in Irish history as legends, our children will read of them in their history books in school and they'll understand what they've done for the Ireland of today. They were the bravest of the brave.May they rest in peace.Tiocfaidh ar la. elaine: spooky elaine: nice. and the colourway in the first one is yummy Peter: and today:
Peter: trends:
GGP: things change, indeed.
coney island is the proverbial canary in the coalmine. Peter: to be filled with so much joy and good vibes, it certainly is a seedy-ass place. but even so, i still agree with your theory 100%... elaine: i'm with the vibe of a vibe...good or bad Jamie: that theory might have more of a scientific basis than you might imagine elaine: tho it still has a hoolish dynamism rather than a me-ish deadpan elaine: natch oneon: Coney has a vibe unlike any other place I’ve been to. Sometimes I think the pure joy of millions of people, for over a century has left it with an indescribable energy that is etched in the earth. Jamie: onl because of it's visual links with your current fetish elaine: all cool, but of course i like the abandoned jumper on the street best elaine: 1) it struck me as strange - i started imagining small rollerscates for hands and all sorts
2) bloody freezing - wrap up warm
3) i pray for the day - pesky fireworks gaz: i like how someone seems to have pissed on the word piss. additionaly, i like that fact that ratner is a penis toucher. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Orange! Peter: thanks. i used to have that exact phone in like 10 different colors. i found the collection in the trash near my old apartment on 108th street years ago. clearing out for the inevitable moves and de-clutterings, i had to get rid of the rest, but ive always kept that... Peter: that last link reminded me of the avenue a shrine (oldskool citynoise).
also: another disused pullbox, across hte street from the atlantic yards:
GGP: I just need to say how much I love this shot. The color, the concept, etc. GGP: on Lex, across the ave from the pharmacy. maybe 83rd or 84th st.? southwest corner. Peter: more penii:
Jamie:
a mcdonalds restaurant somewhere in northern ireland, armagh i think. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Now I can't get the song "Detachable Penis" by King Missile out of my head. GGP: i can't resist weighing in on this thread as well. saw this box on University Place the other day--a real head-scratcher, as it were.
Peter: hmm, good point! Peter: also: this is a great photo... Peter: best of citynoise! Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Where exactly is this sugar-mecca? I may go and press my nose against the glass. Peter: last summer, i saw a bum passed out on that wooden ramp up to the boardwalk. he looked dead and didnt appear to be breathing. i mentioned it to a cop on the boardwalk and they called an ambulance and took him away. i was afraid he was either dead... GGP: no...sometimes it is better to keep the fantasy in tact. Peter: i love that second shot, jeeff. it looks really nice to me.
also: orange is my fav color lately. Peter: i like the chicken costume. nice. Peter: so... did you go in this time, ggp? Peter: awesome!!! this is such a comprehensive series of photos, too. thanks for posting this landmark. i used to work near there, and walked past it a hundred times but never took any photos. top notch. Peter: i like teh "fireworks on sale here" signs. fireworks are illegal here. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: In time for Hool's next posting.
Ha! can't catch me with your tricky word play ;) Catherine Penfold-Waxman: When they say hand car, do they mean wheelbarrow?
(It looks distinctly chilly there, by the way) Peter: from here: Antwerp Criminal Art... Catherine Penfold-Waxman: umm...I just read this again and to be clear I was asking where was the picture of the wooly willy taken. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Brilliant!!! Absolutely brilliant! These are both fantastic.
Jamie, where did you get the enormous wooly willy from?
I'm so confused about sucking someone non-sexually. Peter: a classic:
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Fantastic link, thanks! I love that the old fire alarms have a second life as altars. elaine:
these seem to go with this, somehow elaine:
elaine: ha!
plus and by the way, i only just noticed that there are a pair of runes graffed onto these doors, a big Y with a middle forky bit. this is algiz, a rune of protection. presumably to ward off interruption from the phreakers, jai?
Carlos Luis Martín : Hemos comenzado con los cálculos de estructuras de la Catedral de Justo, y por ahora entendemos que la edificación garantiza la estabilidad estructural.
(We have begin with the calculations of the Catedral of Justo, and for the moment we understand it gives the security of resistence).
SI ALGUIEN QUIERE VOLUNTARIAMENTE COLABORAR... elaine:
elaine: heh, ggp, i missed that bill burroughs crack first time round elaine: update;
elaine: fish fried in batter - very yummy. also, good when drunk (i promise) elaine: it makes me think the lunches should be tiny adam: im drunk and these pics are ruining my appetite.. THATS FISH?! Jamie: whilst randomly stumbling through flickr, i found this series of photos flickr.com/photos/tags/sidewalkaltar/. a new lease of life for disused fire alarm boxes. Jamie: Jamie: in time for what catherine? Jamie: Luncheonette. Sweet. That last one is New York elaine: if you confide in lions it's best to tickle them as well, or they might think you are lunch(ette) and forget themselves Laura : Haha- this one too. I love the little paper triangle cups that the water comes in. They then put them in little metal cup holders. It's great. The prices aren't vintage, though :( Laura : I walk by this building every Sunday. I always wanted to take pictures of it! Thanks! adam: excelllentttt GGP: i know. biologicals! wowza!
I like the idea of confiding to a goldleaf lioness. ian: jeeff, plane suspended in midair with some grade A barrel distortion for free! ian: hoooooooooooooooooooooooooool has magic powers. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Tea with bromide, Jack. Or maybe a cold shower.
(Please, God, don't let me be the one to have started a thread about penis's. It's Catholic school all over again.) Catherine Penfold-Waxman: These are wonderful. Thanks for the tour. I fancy some biologicals now.
in hoc signo confidas: upon this signal confide (you can trust us?)
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Tasty. Typefaces, neon and the promise of sugar, all rolled into one. jack: how large can a penis get? no soul just a babbler one word, majical, mis-used. should be ,'disposes'. i always thought that a penis on average is 9 to 12 inches. but not lets get into a discussion on the size of penis'remember its ' how...
