Previous Day :: Next Daymoebius rex: oh, i love this building. my good friend Kendal lives just a few blocks from it. the last couple of times i've visited nyc, i've stayed with her. i quickly developed a ritual of starting each day by walking about fifteen minutes to a cafe--Ozzie's, i think--for my morning cup... Peter: digicams help you capture that strange world that, although easy to visualize in your mind's eye at times, doesnt translate well to being captured in a hard-copy medium. egenus: ahh delicious irony. egenus: That is some phat graffiti. People around here are no where near as creative. We just get the ironic "Jesus Loves You" vandalism. egenus: God I love this. This is why I need a digicam so bad. egenus: Flexible. That's never a bad thing. :) chucksspeed: amped
kickin it
imagine a line worker - ten hour shifts hanging the same trim piece every 68 seconds. trim takes 12 seconds to hang; 56 seconds left to do whatever can be done in less than a minute. in the gaps - we listen to the rhythm...
industrial rhythm - becomes... karma: this is a beautiful picture, hool. Peter: for 8 years, my love for NYC has been unshakable; after spending the weekend in Detroit, though, its as if I've taken on some mysteriously sultry new urban lover, a thickly populated inner-city mistress linked only to my current city-love via interstate, a lover that smells like river, malt-liquor, and... Peter: it looks alot like the old NY Cancer Home up on 106th and CPW, near where i live, in Manhattan- the architecture is very similar. Also similar: this past winter, they began renovating it into luxury condos... after it sat empty, abandoned, and squatted for decades. otisbirdsong: This is the Montauk Club, it has (or had) a great bowling alley in the basement that used small balls and minature pins with a manual ball-return system. I remember as a kid working setting up the pins with a friend for some party. It was super hard work... Peter: wow, so many good submissions while I was away this weekend! Peter: I'm liking the black-and-white that youve been posting lately... Peter: wow, thats a nicely blurred shot, for a digicam. Peter: black and white, colour, all good photos my man. Peter: I used to live in Bay Ridge; parts of Brooklyn are really pretty... trouble: notice anything missing? no vinyl flooring! hardcore. even detroit pulled out the mats after 20 minutes or so. trouble: i've read this several times, each time i find something new to relate to it or stories i've been told that validate some of what you said in this piece.
also makes me think of the White Stripes songs 'The Union Forever' and 'The Big Three Killed My Baby'... Peter: and that girl in the pink sweatsuit? aww, damn! her moves were out of this world. the old-school b-girl with the white gloves did know how to rock a party, though. trouble: yeah! peter, she's yours and her little friend is mine! i'll also take the old-school lady in the red jumpsuit who threw down the serious old school moves. the dreads, the jumpsuit... hold me! Peter: you live in nyc? Peter: digital edifices, binary buildings. Peter: hey, this is really a great shot! i live in new york city, so of course i have a soft spot for the b-boy scene here.
i did just get back from demf, where i took tons of pop-n-lock photos which i will of course post here in the next day... joyfullgirl: the building looks almost computer generated. joyfullgirl: I love it. I feel that way every day, because the city is my home, and the only place that allows me to hide from everything, and watch a million people go about their day.
I am sad that I will have to leave it soon. joyfullgirl: very impressive. Riot. digital cam? I just got some interesting film that has all the blues stand out beautifully. joyfullgirl: I remember that. I miss it. Previous Day :: Next Day |
