EvilGentleman: Gorgeous! My fave muscle cars are the '67 and '73 Corvette Stingrays, and the '65 Olds Cutlass with the 330ci 4-barrel V8 and the low ratio tranny. My dad had one of those and it was the family car for the first 10 years of my life. I must admit...

anon (cache-dtc-ac06.proxy.aol.com): I grew up in Marine Park. It is a safe, residental, working class area where a high population of police and firefighters live. Not pretentious, and with a nice middle-income suburban vibe. Most places in Marine Park are a two fare zone, but if you are working in Coney Island, it...

Peter: yeah... the specific, idiosyncratic meaning of the term "package store" has all but been forgotten. now its just an arcane (though still used often enough, especially on older cities that have bars/stores that have been around for ages) euphemism for "liquor store". im sure its a strictly american term.

in response to Little Joe\'s Lounge

EvilGentleman: Oh, ok. The wiki link was interesting. I had never heard the phrase before. Learned something new today.

in response to Little Joe\'s Lounge

Peter: lol. this isnt a site about hot air balloons... you know? this entry is merely part of a much larger whole...

SweetStuff: For my project on hot air balloons i came here to look for some very old pics of them. I found some but not a lot! if you think this site is one of the best it aint well it sord is but still i think if you want this...

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Peter, let's get a citynoise fieldtrip together and check out the exhibit. The Noguchi stuff is fantastic (and oh so photogenic)

in response to Cold, Hard.

EvilGentleman: It's a public health announcement reminding prostitutes in the area to get their STD checkups.

in response to Test Box N.F.D.

EvilGentleman: Almost nobody takes pride in their work these days.

in response to SMOOTH

EvilGentleman: Is the sign recycled? What kind of lounge sells "Packaged Goods" (If that's what it's supposed to say)

in response to Little Joe\'s Lounge

Mitch Waxman: P- there's a Buckminster Fuller exhibit at the Noguchi museum in LIC (astoria's next door) at the moment. http://www.noguchi.org/ Bucky invented the geodesic dome and noguchi is... noguchi Mitch

in response to Cold, Hard.

jeeff: too bad you weren't able to pass the test of opening it.

in response to Test Box N.F.D.

Amanda: Im a white girl, 23, and I moved to Brooklyn from the suburbs of Massachusetts. I have been all over Brooklyn, in whats considered the "bad" areas, and I honestly think its hysterical that people are afraid. Unless you're walking around LOOKING lost and scared and uncomfortable, no one is...

in response to Dangerous to Walk Around Brooklyn?

Mitch Waxman: Marine Park is really nice, coney island a 20-30 minute drive away (belt pkwy is alway traffic plagued, so learn the local street way to go). Standard NYC logic applies- trust your instincts & if a bell is going off listen to it. Coney has a couple of gangs, but...

Kakumei: I'm a 20 year old white female and I live in Brooklyn (Flatbush) - I go around to Coney Island, Crown Heights, Marine Park, Williamsburg, Sunset Park, etc by myself during the day _and_ night and I've never had a problem worse than people asking me for change. The only...

Jayne: those rapes were during the daytime?

in response to Dangerous to Walk Around Brooklyn?

anon (ool-457387f4.dyn.optonline.net): Yeah i'd be careful, there's been at least 50 reported rapes in that area in April alone. Trust me I am a cop. I wouldn't walk those parts, especially being a female!

in response to Dangerous to Walk Around Brooklyn?

Peter: no its not dangerous at all to walk around , especially in the daytime. its not 1970 anymore, you know, nor the crack-wars of the 80s ;)

EvilGentleman: Nice shots, jack. But I am pretty sure the cowboys and Indians would fight over who gets to own the casinos. From the vantage point of Las Vegas, the desert is definitely disappearing fast. But if you want to see real desert, just go 100 miles in any direction from Las...

in response to Changing Desert

EvilGentleman: It's ok. Melanie is a seldom-used middle name anyways. Most people know her under a different name. I only push boundaries within reason. I would never mention what Indian Reserve she came from, or the fact that I once dated her sister. What kind of man do you think I...

anon : What is true is that this was Lusitania's NY pier - she opened the Chelsea Piers in 1907 - first ship in. At that time the sheds were sinlge story though. The Chelsea Piers were officially opened in 1910. Cunard and White Star did not merge until 1934 BTW.

in response to Cunard White Star Lines

anon (dialup-4.172.150.78.Dial1.NewYork1.Level3.net): This was not the intended pier for Titanic. That would be Pier 60. It is true of course that Carpathia and the Titanic survivors used this pier - Carpathia was a Cunard vessel
