Previous Day :: Next DayS: Toronto has a real problem on their hands with the homeless. They've dumped loads of money into the situation and it never seems to get any better.
I can't remember the exact numbers, but there was a documentry on Television recently which claimed the "majority" of the homeless people in Toronto... GGP: that's an amazing shot! nice work! S: Better check that cup. It might be a winner!. I actually won a free coffee this morning for the first time (after buying at least 30 coffees). Has anybody been following the story in Quebec about the 2 girls who found one of those winning cups in... Elicar: THAT is not PRETTY! Subway stations should look like this Jon: bout time minnesota. make some noise. show some love
GGP: is that a snow-draped sunflower? people who love graffiti..: JAONE RIP GGP: long ago, i meant, not long away--though i suppose it's the same thing. giovanni: francesca cerco anche io di contattare squatters per vivere e trasferirmi la ma non riesco! se sai qualcosa fammi sapere GGP: peter, will do! thanks for the tip. GGP: oh, that wall's done up that way on purpose--a new look called "distressed walling"--a joint effort with the Gap, which sells jeans with huge hole for extra! GGP: sparrows have really been on my mind lately. they're in highly active breeding and nest-building mode. they're working on a nest above my office window as we speak! also, i've been listening to a lot of country music lately and there seem to be sparrows everywhere. dolly parton's "little sparrow."... jack: i worked in manhattan from 1960 till 1978 and then on the island. in 87 i went back to manhattan to work down on maiden lane and what to my unbelieveing eyes did i see but homeless men begging on the corners. i was shocked because i had... jack: good jamie. EvilGentleman: I guess all other activities are supposed be done on the floor. The janitor must hate this sign Peter: yeah, my school had those pavers on its sidewalks/pathways too... totally a nyc thing. theyre in every park, it seems! Peter: jack: i thought that same thing about the '666', heh.
eg: youre talking about the apocrypha, yes? fascinating... jack: i have always been fascinated with the stone walkways. they are in every park in the city system. the zoos have them and i remember walking on them as a boy. and in the movie,'the eddy duchin story' tyrone power threw some sunflower seeds onto those... EvilGentleman: Robberies in Montreal's subway system are somewhat rare, but a federal cabinet minister got robbed on a subway station platform here a few months ago. EvilGentleman: One of the great ironies is that the Full Gospel Bible has a few chapters missing that are in the Catholic Bible jack: neptune. jack: i would love to drive my wife around in that. we can go to the met and i could drive right up to the front doors and save $20. EvilGentleman: And when they offer deliverance, do we have to tip the driver?
And they also do Bible studies a lot, but do they ever take exams? jack: well deep seated is the correct form of expression to use here. i once saw a dead rat in a toilet and it had a smile on its face, but i had to go real bad. jack: would have been funny if the address was 666 jack: what do we have half gospels? jack: cobblestones. jack: this this this has has has been been viewed viewed viewed, is there an echo in here? jack: its under surveillance, so what. a theif can get the garbage and be in alaska before the police do anything about it. and who knows whats in the garbage? maybe your information. Peter: ggp: next time youre down there, look at the crazy drawing the token-booth clerk did on the whiteboard in the booth... its a little city scene with busses and a subway and buildings, in several colors. its been there for months. ive tried to get photos, but every time its... jack: do not judge a book by its color. or looks.. london is a mag of a town, that the history of it staggers my imagination. i compare it to manhattan or chicago. london has stories i've read that goes back to the middle ages. Peter: the MTA is bureaucracy at its finest (worst?)! soaking up maximum funds whilst giving minimal services. i bet there are people on the MTA control board that have never even ridden public trans in nyc... jack: the problem here is that no politicians ride the subways there. if they did the city would repair and clean it up to show how their tax dollars are at work.. our tax dollars are going into their paychecks and not into the stations. Peter: did you see this entry of the other end of the platform on bergen? speaking of no sunshine, heh! jack: i remember many mornings at 2 or 3 am on the subways. desolate. quiet. GGP: "i hear that whistle blowin'
it's comin' round the bend
and i ain't seen the sunshine
since i don't know when"
that's how it feels down there sometimes. elaine: i feel sorry for students from abroad who think they are going somewhere glamourous and intellectual... elaine: for the sandwich for the sandwich Peter: ooh, id love to see more (larger?) shots of this canal! Peter: save save
the the
tuna tuna Peter: they say yellow is the most psychologically-active color... Peter: nice! ugly, "modern" cement buildings... this one looks frighteningly similar to the building my office is in. FlamingRRose: I love this polite request that disguises deep seated suspicion about the sort of things people get to in THEIR toilet. elaine: don't pee in it and don't poo in it. tissue only. GGP: impressive tranfromation! GGP: I know that fence well--I wonder if that might be Poseidon and sea monsters--in any event, I love this and I'm glad you got it on here. Peter: thats at 72nd and cpw... its The Dakota! groovehouse: Don't drop your $4 coffee in here
Don't drop your cell phone/PDA in here
responsibilities: really cool
Jamie: language is a funny thing isn't it. i like how 'you' becomes 'yous' becomes 'use' ultimately becoming almost nonsensical. heh. i also like how this post attracts such random wankers Jamie: i don't have time right now, but maybe another author could do a bit of consolidation here? Jamie: He's just sitting there.
Looking angry, children gaze
at his hairy girth.
Sitting, watching, growls.
They shouldn't bang on the glass.
It makes him nervous.
Every day's the same.
He keeps his cache hidden from view.
So they will not see.
Mussels, cockles, whelks.
They're his passion. They're his joy.
He's a Gorilla. PolishGayIrishIndianWhiteHUMAN: The whole area has been changing forever. It was once all Polish and Eastern Europeans. We never complained when others moved in or out of the area. Chicago is the most segregated mentally challenged City on the PLANET. The Mayor steals the cops are brutal and gangs have existed since... elaine: hahahahaha! my, but he's tidy when he's scrunched up! adam: dirty hippies! Jon: I took that train to school every day. I always wanted to do a photo series cause its an interesting ride and an incredible contrast when you go from Tower City to Green Road.
Its: downtown and a brief glimpse of the flats, then steelmills, shitty neighboorhoods, junkyards, projects... then... Humbolt Park - Dave: Staci,
There's a book I purchased unfortunately at Borders bookstore titled "Images of America, Puerto Rican Chicago" by Wilfredo Cruz. It covers everything from Families, Community life, Political/Social Activism, Arts and Culture.
I look forward purchasing your book or possibly viewing your documentary.
Good Luck!
Humbolt Park - Dave: Margaret,
I'm glad you were able to get in contact with L.U.C.H.A.. I'm curious to see if you ever made the visit to H.P? I hope your research on urban communities goes well.
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: I like insects, but I wouldn't want to find one of these in my shoe. Or tea. Or windscreen. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Do you mean that I shouldn't have picked him up and kissed him on the beak? Bugger. joey: march 13th has been quite the day for zoo pictures. every bird you see these days - you just got to ask - does it have the h51n bird flu? Catherine Penfold-Waxman: I was on the Intrepid air/sea museum yesterday and I turned round and saw this cheeky pipe bot eyeing me quissically. Well really!
illwind: Well, at least he didn't need to take a dump! Previous Day :: Next Day |
