Rob Tynan: Would Mr Iddon from Harewood Road be Jimmy Iddon? JOSEPH BRIDGE: we are the voices of the past. i do agree that the thousands of current residents of kensington should be heard on here. they can share their concerns. i'm sure some people in kensington have access to computers. hey serlingrod, do you let residents know about this site. just curious... Sheila Vaudrey: Hello Sheila H and Norma, I am quite sure that Hapgoods lived at no 20 unless they moved house, like I said I went to school with Arnold and he always lived at No 20 as far as I know. My dad worked at Royles Engineering as did Mr Iddon,... Tick: This reminds me of the game Half Life 2. These are kick-ass images. Lou Romero: Thanks UFF,
I am a member of BushwickBuddies, maybe a little to crowded for me now (lol)
A cousin of mine forward us to CityNoise, showcasing the pictures of Bushwick.
I'm hoping to hear from more Fourteen Holy Martyrs alumnii between the years 1973 to 1975 Norma Bannon (nee Bolton): Hi Sheila and rrrrr(?)
We lived at no 20 Harewood Rd from 1983-1995. Mr & Mrs Iddon lived opposite, such a lovely couple. Jim passed away many years ago, but Edie still sent us Xmas cards in OZ, until she passed away 4 or 5 years ago. As... CJ: Hello! I found this website because a co-worker of mine is considering a move to North Florida. I told her about my experiences but she didn't believe me. Perhaps she'll believe you guys though so I'll pass this link along to her.
My husband and I lived in... Alejandro!: That "obsolete machine" picture seems like a Nine Inch Nails reference to me from the song Somewhat Damaged. This tunnel looks amazing, though. Lillibette Irish expat: What most of the people that have responded to this fail to realize is that "The Troubles" in Ireland have LONG ago stopped being about religion. It was/is rather like the black-white thing in the U.S., with the Catholics being treated as the blacks were treated.
If you... u shud give more details: where is this in manhattan Jamie: Fuckyeah. I can have a little piece of Brooklyn right here in Lincolnshire any time I like. Screw the carbon footprint luna park: thanks, zagg.
this is in my brooklyn backyard, jack, between apartment buildings. :) luna park: there used to be many breweries in brooklyn - i don't know if there are any other in operation other than the brooklyn brewery.
here's a link about rheingold: www.beerhistory.com/library/hold . . . s/hofmann-rheingold.shtml
i had no idea brooklyn beers were being exported to the UK! wow. jack: great shot joey, it could be anytown usa, beautiful, i always said you had an eye for photography. grange: Homeless folks live along there . I wonder if anyone thought to see if they were ok ? jack: whatever happened to reingold? i miss that beer and the miss reingold beauty pageant. jack: yep, it reminds me of when i played behind apartment buildings in brooklyn, and in particular one yard with louella and her brother and we were in her sprinkler and we lay there looking up at the sky and the clothes on her mothers clothes line. hot day and... upfromflames: I'm glad ya'll have found each other here. Bushwick has an important place in the hearts of CityNoise contributors and editors.
If you have any photos of Bushwick from your youth, you are welcome to post them here at citynoise.
And in addition, have you considered joining bushwick buddies? Thats a... Who Cares for Kensington: I'll leave race out of my comments and will continues to focus on the radical change of culture and values. The changes are what thay are and I am sure that the government nor activists will be able change its core. It sounds like one of the recent contributors and... Bertha Gibson : Thank you. I'm surprised you received no encouragement from Fr. Martin, whom seemed to be such a nice priest. Was it Sister Betty of 14 Holy Martyrs (now St. Martin's) who passed away recently? I heard she was one strict teacher/nun. Lou Romero: Welcome aboard Bertha, looks like the Father Heitz memories is in full steam, yes, Father Martin, I believe did marry one of the nuns, I think
they had to leave the church to do that, I believe Laura would have to confirm that story.
I remember he(Fr.Martin) was not very encouraging of... Bertha Gibson (Sanchez): Hello to all. Great blog here.
Louis (Koochie....smile)
Oh my goodness, I remember viewing Father Heitz' body in the rectory (1970?). Fourteen Holy Martyrs (on Central/Schaffer St) merged with St. Martin's (on Knickerbocker/Weirfield St) and the building (on Central/Schaffer) was taken over by Pilgrim Baptist Church. Then sometime in... Sheila Hilton: Re above rrrrrrrr(?)
I lived at no. 14 Harewood road with my family (Davies). Next door (12) was a Mrs Harrop. On the other side (16) lived the Hapgoods. Throughout this site you should see a few more rerences to the people who also live(d) there. eg. sheila Vaudrey, Anne Bennett,... Sheila Hilton: Gary Sparkes - re shopping centre:
There was also a shoe shop opposite the entrance and a little to the right (not too far from the bank).I remember buying my son a pair of Doc Martens from there, for school. A fraction of what they cost now, even taking inflation into... Sheila Hilton: Hya Sue,
I take it that your comments about your family (O'Reilly) were in response to anon's comments above. I suspect they were made in jest, but that wasn't made clear if they were. Perhaps anon would care to reveal him/herself. See you soon -
Sheila Joe F: Hi Laura !
RE: "my" 3rd Ave EL PHOTO !
I enjoyed reading your Yorkville memories as an ex 1940's-60's Yorkville-ite myself. It would have been appropriate and nice for me to also have been given ME credit for MY OWN PHOTO which you used in your writeup, photo taken at the... Jamie: My local supermarket (Boston, UK) sells Brooklyn Beer. JSC: all cool rides
1.Fire Ball
2.Rock'n'Roll
3.Pirate Ship
4.Haunted Castle G. Groulx: I think it's sad that there are over 150,000 homeless people in Canada. Abandoned houses or building can be fixed up and be used for the homeless. They can also be used as low income housing. How many people these days are finding it hard to make ends meet. Mitch: Tykal, while I agree with you that Toronto is a great city, I am tired of hearing about how its the most multicultural city in the world when the U.N has never awcknoleged it. It is just a claim that Toronto made. audrey: i have family there, they are quite contented... adr: im not gonna read any of these comments, all i know is that the pics were all of one area by the old hospital, not the church, i dont know what year, but now they are apts, and all the pics were taken from different views of the old hospital.... zagg: i'm loving the simplicity and COZYNESS of this photo. Jose Rodriguez: Man this was buffed along time ago. Man graffiti, only temporary.. Jose Rodriguez: Man that "A3" looks wack, i got better pictures of his work. I just wish i knew the person to write a better article walkhere: the sun doesn't shine on ontario. EvilGentleman: They now seem to take place every Sunday, rain or shine. But when the weather is really bad, only the most hard-core tam-tam people stay there. Last year, they kept going until Halloween, if I recall correctly. Previous Day :: Next Day |
