Previous Day :: Next DayScott: Yes, jesus was a sex radical, if you belive in him, he preached that it was ok to enjoy sex. It was stated in the context of the marriage bed. It was belived at that time that sex was only allowed to have children and it was a sin to... jack: apparently even the residents are vacant. jack: apparently even the residents are vacant. EvilGentleman: But one way or another, you are naturally suited to "Erban photography" Chris Erb: My dad lives about 15 minutes from Erb Settlement but my family is actually from Saint John. I actually don't think any Erbs live in Erb Settlement but I'm not 100% sure.
I used to get asked that a lot when I lived in Sussex. Now that I'm in... 420eeka-mouse:

non-hipster: re: Bushwick. I'm dissapointed in several things I have read here. The fact that blame has been assigned to an entire part of the community (i.e. the whites) for driving out ethnic minorities. First off, no one racial group "owns" a neighborhood; I pushed out no one in my... GUS BRENNAN: i would like to hear from any other ex-patriot barlickers, who miss the town, or would like any information concerning anything about barlick, i would be only to happy to help..... Brian Klaus: Let's not pretend that the Northeast is uniformly grear. Norton looks like Paris when compared to North Wales, PA. sine: www.notfoolinganybody.com EvilGentleman: oops, I commented on the wrong page. dayum. EvilGentleman: Chris Erb, I have to ask:
Is the "Erb Settlement" located just to the southeast of Norman, NB where you got the Erb in your name? Are you actually "Chris from Erb Settlement"? DR.PHEVR: GRAFFITI LIVES! CANT STOP THA FILLIN! MOVED TO BUQUE 5 MONTHS AGO. BIG UPS TO TAKE.ONE, AND TO ALL ALL TO ALL YOU ANTI GRAFF HEADS
"EAT SHIT" VIVA LA REVOLUTION! EXPRETION IS EVREYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! Jamie: it certainly isn't a high-class holiday destination Chris Erb: For some reason, when I first saw the picture, I thought Cleethorpes and was very surprised to see that it was. My girlfriend is good friends with someone from Cleethorpes but he generally doesn't have much good to say about the place. Jamie: as if "someone took the same mile of scenery- pasture, irrigation ditch, farm, endless miles of cornfields- copied it, and pasted it 5,000 times between the northeast and the west coast".
kinda like a scooby-doo chase scene, then... EvilGentleman: Aside from the campy invitations to "See the Tri-County Area's Largest Ball of String" and so on, the heartland actually does have a lot going for it. The beauties of nature are often harder to find, due to the scope of the plains overwheming eveything else, but trust me, if... EvilGentleman: On May 3, 1999, the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Norman recorded data from the world's fastest tornado, which passed a few miles NW of here. www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/storms/19990503/
Guess it's not always boring in these parts, and it might help explain a lot of the bland architecture. Who wants to... GUS BRENNAN: patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel SPA ONE: yea 2 ease is sick all ways on point.. the second cab is a potluck of people.. but the ifrst one 2 ease is hot Peter: jamie: youre pretty much right. not all are as creepy as they appear in some of these sorts of photos, but theyre definitely desolate and full of tons of nothingness. when i drove from nyc to san francisco on a route that took me straight through the "heartland", i was... Chris Erb: I used to write the Slayer logo on my desk all the time when I was in highschool. it is also in bathroom stalls, lockers and is probab;ly still engraed in a tree near the front doors. Chris Erb: How long ago was this? Did they play any new songs? Peter: dont worry, it was empty. well, except for me. and the dulcet tones of slayer tearing at my eardrums. Peter: me too. i pass by their huge container-port at port newark every day on the path train commuting home. their cranes are huge! Jamie: it seems to me, as an outsider, that middle america is chock full of creepy nothingness Chris Erb: I used to live by a small town called Norton. Frighteningly enough, it was even more boring than how this place looks. Jamie: careful peter. you don't wanted to become known as "that beardy guy who takes photos in the bathroom" ya know Scott Sargent: I'd like a Maersk Sealand baseball cap. Scott Sargent: As opposed to this town. Chris Erb: Unlike the others in the series, this town at least seems to have a little bit of character. Scott Sargent: Fine by me. Edit as needed. Peter: this is my new favorite citynoise meme... Editor:: since you appear to be doing a series, i changed the titles of your recent posts to reflect that. hope thats ok... it adds a sense of continuity, and will later allow readers to view your series more easily as it gets burried in newer posts. Scott Sargent: At least you don't live in Belleville, Kansas. nicole: ha ha, dad.... Scott Sargent: I wasn't there long. Just passing through on the interstate, actually. I ate at the first Denny's for dinner, the second Denny's for breakfast the next day, and the bottom two shots are the front and back of the budget motel I stayed overnight at.

Peter: Chris Erb: also... most of the newer hell tags have a more conventional "h" starting them off... i think the loopy cursive-ish "h" was back in the beginning, as i see few of those, and all the new ones are with the non-cursive, boring "h".

Peter: WOW, what an epic post! im not sure how i missed this the first time, i guess it just slipped by when i was busy or something, but well done, eg! what a story. Peter: yeah, some of the ram51 posts were interesting, but when ram51 started posting endless floods of this sort of content, on a seemingly hourly basis, the backlash (and consequent editorial housekeeping) sort of scared the poster away.
too much obliquely arbitrary content, i guess. jamie: it seems to be a rant about the proliferation of flags here lately. Specifically the flag of st. george. the 'english' flag, as pictured. It's all to do with the world cup but as i'm neither a sports fan nor particularly patriotic, i can, i'm a afraid, shed no light... Peter: i love this post... Peter: i was watching some welcome back kotter reruns recently, and this post came to mind, and this does in fact apepar to be the school in question. good call, jack! Peter: challenge of the day: how many of you can slip the phrase "a major happenin' place for Catholics" into some random conversation today?
also: great pics. that first one is very... churchly! black&white did these shots justice. i wouldnt mind seeing more b/w around here, frankly... Peter: also: i used to live up the avenue from a Tastykake factory, one which made strawberry pop-tarts. the whole neighborhood smelled like overpoweringly fresh-baked artificial strawberry tarts every morning, starting at about 5am... it always made me so hungry for breakfast while i was on my way to work, heh.

Peter: jamie? elaine? make sense of this for us canadians and americans... Peter: DAMN that bike is hot! i also like the overcast look of the light in the second shot of the man walking... nice. Peter: i like your sentiments regarding balance, jack. well done. i plan on seeing a sunset in florida before the summer is over! Peter: love it! these are some of my favorite sorts of posts... the informative ones- both visually and textually- that leave you with a real feel of a place.
also: those spiral staircases on the fire-escapes are really cool. i wish we had those in nyc, but we'd probably end up with... i forgot i put them there, i was thinking "that was jeeff's post, wasn't it? how would i have arranged the photos?" special stupid today. kc: love the way elaine arranged those pics. hmm. aer suzuki: the fact that both birds reverse direction in the last two shots is very funny somehow...this was a fun series to scroll through, nicely done. aer suzuki: oh ja, nice post. aer suzuki: you have a real knack for putting words together well. the photo's pretty cool too. elaine: i thought that was mares tails and a bit of mackerel, that sky. you're telling me there are SCIENCE words for that shit? damn! EvilGentleman: I like how the lower-level cumulus fractus clouds are already in the shadow of the earth, while the upper-level cirrus is still in the sunlight. EvilGentleman: No clue what is being rebuilt as of yet, but most of the area has been torn down, with only the bar on the west end of the block and 3 or 4 stores on the east end left standing. The rest of the area in the middle has been... vice: keep up the good work
Chris Erb: Any updates on this block? I'm curious as to what is being rebuilt. Chris Erb: I think this is the 4th time I've seen this post on the main page. What's going on? jack: what's with the black marker? who did that? Lil'Dizzie: How Do U Do That Kind Of Mural?Whut Does It Mean?
