The construction of the Manchester Ship Canal resulted in the need to replace the famous stone aqueduct at Barton, which had been constructed as part of the Bridgewater Canal in the eighteenth century. The old stone road bridge was also removed and replaced. Here the old road bridge is partially... LicieLove: I'm a chicago native reading this book for the first time, I'm 20 now. The picture shows a paddle steamer. c1900, which was twin funnelled and used for pleasure trips to Liverpool. The aqueduct is on the right hand side and the road bridge on the left hand side. Dave:
Barton Bridge was completed on the 17th July, 1761. It was built by James Brindley, and shows the bridge looking downstream and the road bridge is behind. The old bridge was removed for the opening of Manchester Ship Canal, c1894. kc: as if the city were enmeshed in a cat's cradle. if that's what it's called. that string in your hands thing. The hallways always smelled like "cooking"...and the elevator operators were warm and friendly!~ We had a three bedroom apartment that looked out to the park and the... colavitos ghost: hey! that's w. 4th st., not 3rd. Guy McLaren: I had donald, daisy, rump and Biltong (In case you dont know, Biltong is something like what the yanks call jerky, only better. Dried spiced beef.
