Previous Day :: Next DayMaxcine: I should knit a sweater for this bench, very nice. kc: That B'way bridge (thanks for the ref) looks extremely difficult to access--like you'd need a kayak. And right--I guess cave painting is graf, then, too. What's the def, any writing on the wall, except the metaphorical kind? (and what's that "writing on the wall" a ref to, anyway?) Jeanette: Pat_ I love these photos! especially this one- it really captures childhood in such a lovely urban way. Peter: re: predating spraypaint... yes, of course.
i saw a "swan" piece under the broadway bridge (painted ca 1975-8?) that was definitely done with yellow and black housepaint... i mean, you could see brushstrokes as if it was painted with a 4" paintbrush.
i wish i had photos of it, but alas, its... Biff: I e-mail them to myself via Netscape which allows me to resize. Biff: Used to be done in coloured chalk. They found graffiti in the ruins of Pompei... kc: This is more like my neck of the woods. I like that sign. Nice old building, too. Believe I frequently gaze it before starting the climb up the hill & around Greenwood... GGP: hey, that wall looks familiar!!
(I have no insights to lend on the history of graf.) Brad: I think there was one a few miles west of where these pictures were taken and one about a mile north. In our county (Sangamon) alone we had six on Sunday evening. The only thing I remember hearing specifically on the scanner was one at Wabash & Veterans in Springfield,... colavitos ghost: funny, a friend of mine and his fiancee were recently inspired by a recent post to take a trip to the brooklyn botanical gardens. oh wait, that was you, nolindia. that explains it: I used to think Mel Lastman was just weird .....now I know better!
Thanks nice: crispy! No name: Why is'nt Shanghai no 1? Jim Jamerbiawest: The CN tower is the greatest of them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim Jamerbiawest: Where is Buffalo, New York and Myrtle Beach,SC. It may not be big, but it goes on for 60 miles! elaine: it says 'you int cen me' urbanghost: thanks grange and thanks hool for the heads up about that intersection. You sound like you really know the city well, which i'm aware of by checking out your site and seeing how much ground you cover. i'm also aware of the dangers in that area. Sometimes,... JB: The original "Smartboard!" JB: What a cool view! Mouse's perspective? JB: Perfect titles!! I really HATE roller coasters - I might almost rather try climbing over this - it might hurt, but it wouldn't scare the s*** out of me!!!! GGP: these are great. those strong yellows are nicely held in check by the B&W bits...and that girl by the fountain is lovely, indeed. KING_FROM_QUEENS: XTERMINATING TOY CHUMPS.... XANAX TRIPPIN CAMP Tamara: too much scanning, not enough time in the day... but thanks for the support Jeeff. GGP: quick intake of breath--oh joy! grange: I like the second one . Nice composition of B&W and young pics and older people ...Well Done hool: good to see other toronto street work. be very careful about photographing the people at the corner of bathurst and queen. if you do shoot there, watch your back. a few of them, on the wrong day, will react violently.
the man in the fourth photo spends a... jeeff: tamara - just post all of them. ;) Tamara: I'll see what I can do Peter.. gotta go through thousands of negs to find them.. this is what I could find in a few short minutes, I spent years shooting grafs. GGP: happens, is forgotten.
happens, is forgotten.
happens, is forgotten.
"what is there i have not forgot
or will forget?"--James Schuyler Catherine Penfold-Waxman: And a fire alarm minding its own business, trying to blend in. Peter: nice!
www.curbed.com/archives/2006/04/ . . . 3/spoonful_of_astoria.php Peter: even microsoft photo editor (that ships as the detault photo viewer with windows) has the ability to resize photos... maybe try that? or send em to the editors and theyll do it... Peter: CHOCOLATE ROBOT BUILDING! Peter: i love it. i love how strange some of the stuff looks- i wouldnt expect any less... totally classic, traditional holiday fare for modern americans :)
seems like someone put alot of work into those. they make me happy. Peter: how quickly everything happens these days... is the essence of future-shock. Peter: maybe its related to the adorn robot...? Peter: the buff strikes yet again! Peter: hey pat, tis great t osee more stuff from crown heights up in here... thanks! GGP: wafer fortresses--a metaphor for our times! Peter: wow, this id love to see more of... Catherine Penfold-Waxman: A chocolate giant...and he's down and helpless. I could manage about a pound of chocolate before diabetic shock set in. KING_FROM_QUEENS: You posers.. please stop frontin' like you know.. the only ones that knew what happened that fatal night is Sane, Bruz, and the NYPD
because they were the only ones there on the Brooklyn Bridge.. So please, stop with the rumors and let the man rest in peace.. please..
for his... Tamara: you got it... I just fell in love with that graf. We would pass by, just so I could look at it again and again. Thanks Evil. no1def: ha! night writer... classic... ahhh... Tamara: That would be great! If you do find any please post them! I'd really like to see the evolution in his work. EvilGentleman: Some of these, I remember. The "La revolution de l'esprit" one was on Dorchester Boulevard (now named Rene Levesque Boulevard), I think. If I see any more Zilong graf work, I shall post it. EvilGentleman: Hmmm, interesting. I see a definite Japanese influence in his work. Thanks. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any of his stuff. elaine: oh! mmm, and ah!
yummy buns, and bizarro folk art. excellent! elaine: zilong, that is. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: Astoria at its finest. elaine: hmm, interesting how the confidence seems to have waned at a certain point in that nekked lady pic, and that she is headless. i wonder if zilon ended up being an axe murderer? Tamara (aka spygirl_t):
Here are a few of Zilong grafs.
Catherine Penfold-Waxman: I love these freakish cakes. Retarded lambs, grotesque bunnies and haphazard chicks. GGP: hi peacepole...I am not pat...though I like pat's work very much. I'm GGP!
and elaine, my normalness quotient is, thankfully, quite low--so cast those aspersions freely! Peacepole1: Hey Pat!
Thanks for the sharing -
I love the top one and the bottom one
but the middle one - something about it makes me get on my knees and howl and bark and bay - and I was excited to see hair growing on my arms and legs but so far... elaine: ps, i don't mean to cast aspersions on your normalness quotient, only my own elaine: hahahahahaha! BRILLIANT! i capslock to your coworker! Tyfoid Kid: A coworker of mine just had a thought. If you look at like the the green fans on the left are eyes then going to the right the face then the torso and oh my god it's the Iron Giants little tan brother, he's fallen and he can't get... elaine: you need software of some sort. i use photoshoppe, but i am guessing even free software should let you alter your pictures in this way. if whatever came with your camera or computer doesn't want to do it, i believe gimp is good. now, i don't know about anyone else,... GGP: kc, thanks!
elaine, falling off chair LOL! GGP: we need a daily newspaper on walking, looking, musing--oh, wait! we already have one! it's called citynoise.
evilg, thanks for this. it was a pleasureful & exciting excursion. elaine: nicely nicely!
even normal people would buy that last one as a postcard. Tyfoid Kid: Very much WOW! There was a lot of physics at play in an accident like this.
I thought they used the metric system in Canada, why are the measuring things out in feet and inches like us bums to the south? kc: wow! really nice! I was there and I missed most of that! kc: It's very leisurely, has a cumulative power. Hard to imagine the papers giving space to something like that, walking, looking, and musing. Interesting to me in fact that this electronic medium has allowed such meditative moments....really enjoyed it, the shifting views, the trains...that one with the spikes being yanked out... Tyfoid Kid: I love this kind of stuff. It's like an Andrew Wyeth painting www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/wyeth_andrew.html grange: speaking of pic , i cant get mine to load to the site ,,,grrrrrr . Im new with the digital camera .how do i change to 600 pixels.. I contacted the web site but know answer ..I have a sony Cyber-shot 6.0
Help me,,, im not that smart ...lol.. grange: lol... Nope . Police said he was nuts too after they went to talk to him ...I moved away . to damn creepy for me Jamie: what. is. it? SCAM28: @ mel
you're thinking of Mare....
But definetly some nice flixxx, keep em comin'
btw I think it's great there's people out there that don't paint graff, yet still understand what it can be or what it means to people...
SCAM28 Berlin GraffCity Jamie: oooooh nice legs SCAM28: Ah nice stuff...the good old stuff, when bombing was simple...
And I second Peter's comment: King Revolt!
if it really was posted by him....
I love his stuff, Zephyr's too....
elaine: i had an orange cat once. he was called hamish. Elicar: And oh, Grange, don't you think the camera was set up to scare the burglars away? Could be a fake one, for all ya know! Editor: no prob. chiamattt: www.idruna.com/pocketphojo_wifi.html chiamattt: It is pretty much all timing. You said this happened on Feb17th, but you took the pictures in April.
Those dudes taking pictures in Iraq and overseas have systems where the pictures go from their camera to a laptop in their backpack and transmitted via satellite phone to their agency... EvilGentleman: Thanks for all the compliments. After I shot these pictures, I showed them to some people I know, and I had a few of them suggest that I should try to sell them to a newspaper. I thought to myself, "As if!" But what the heck. So I contacted the... joey: all we need is a map to know exactly where this bridge is located GGP: great composition! nice greens! drea: ooohhh also...good luck with the waiting for you tree to grow Elicar. Patience IS a virtue. drea: Ooohhh..very cool! This is the only tree that turns red in the fall. I took a walk around my neighbourhood one autumn day to find other nice trees, but this by far is the best one. drea: The architecture's so cool!!! Reminds me of some of the buildings I saw in France (forgot where, I believe Paris) that had big pipes running around outside the building and they were brightly coloured. I wish I had a picture. (Didn't have a digital camera then) Elicar: That's very pretty! I have a dwarf Japanese maple that I planted two springs ago and I couldn't wait for it to grow to its full glory of about 5 feet! Of course, I may have to wait a lot more years since it is a slow grower. I... drea: Thanx for the title and location addition! David Boyle: Well done! It is so good that I feel that I can say, "Been there; done that!" Myke: That was great! Very good contribution, I enjoyed it! drea: My street has a sign like that too, but there was a third one. I'll find the time to take a picture and post it up. It think the streets meet each other to form either a crescent or a square. At least my street does that. (My street confused... drea: wow...that's a blue shed. I like it! Peter: yay crown heights!!!! more! EvilGentleman: Actually, on the road map of Quebec, Highway 132 follows the south coast of the Saint Lawrence River, then curves around the Gaspe peninsula until it intersects itself at Mont-Joli. I have no idea how the directions of the highway are denoted there, but if you use one direction consistently,... Peter: best of, straight up.... wow. just wow... drea: OOHHH...I like that title!!
Here's the leaves post-redness.
And here's the leaves at FULL redness. Pretty ain't it?
This is the full tree.
Enjoy!
EvilGentleman: Darn, I was just thinking of taking a picture of the corner of Saint Patrick and Saint Patrick in Lasalle last night, but it was too dark. Previous Day :: Next Day |
