Previous Day :: Next DayBiff: Wow, you are 3 weeks ahead of us in Toronto. It all happens so quickly Suddenly you are walking down the street on a carpet of petals. Like a big fat Greek wedding... Biff: This is the Condo on my block where the privileged live. They have high fences and no children. Thats why the lawn is so green. But it's so peaceful... SEAmo! from louisville, KY 4-20-06: JA is definately a serious bomber, a true king. I still want to see more than just throwups though. Don't get me wrong, he gets mad respect from me, that boy gets up like crazy. I think he started out towards the end of the subway days. JAST n.y.: i havnt seen ja pieces but is is the all time king of throwups!reppresentin NY 4 life! Elicar:
barry: Niceone Groovehouse ;) jack : me too who built it?
jeeff: oh yeah, you're right. i got mixed up. federally-appointed. jeeff: the major mechanism in rental increases isn't the capped yearly increase that landlords get with current tenants, it's the unlimited increase landlords get by kicking out their tenants en masse to redevelop a property. this directly affects both current and prospective low-income tenants. anon (142.108.46.47): Actually, the Toronto Port Authority is a federal government body. All ports in Canada, sea and air, are controlled by the federal government. drea: That's a great shot. I luv it when you get random street shots like that. Elicar: On the second thought, the landlord could only raise rent by so much because of rent control. When I was renting, my yearly increase was 2.8%. So, one could argue that, there is a rent increase everywhere, whether a yuppie neighbourhood, or a Jane and Finch neighbourhood.
The only... Elicar: Ahhh...Now, that puts things in perspective. When I saw people "lost their homes", I only thought of homeowners. Yup, I called my rental dwelling my home, not too long ago. My bad!
Awww S__t! Am I getting snotty? :(

Bamboo Graffiti - Hermann Park, Japanese Gardens, Houston, Tx. Editor:: 640 is a tad large, especially for graf... as in the photo you psoted above in the comments, so much of it is just wall... with the key graf in the middle. if you might crop them, or perhaps see if theres an option for a tad smaller resizing size,... Peter: nope, im not from new jersey. im from brooklyn, thankfully. jeeff: elicar - the vast majority of poor people don't own their own homes outright, they're at the mercy of landlords. when an area starts to gentrify, it creates upward pressures on rents. landlords naturally want to realize maximum profits on their rental units, so rents begin to climb... Gee-Nice, a Tru-Jerseyian...: you were'nt walking uptown on Raymond Ave., you're on Raymond Boulevard, are you even from Jersey? Gotta get it right, if you're representin' !!!! EvilGentleman: Sorry for mucking up your thread, Peter. Hmmm, maybe a citynoise Q&A thread is needed.... EvilGentleman: Um, I was thinking 640 x 480, but no more than 10 pics to a thread. I'm using MS Picture Manager to resize, and it has an automatic setting for that size available. Is that acceptable? Editor:: If possible, making sure the photo-dimensions are around 500px (as an absolute maximum- for both width or height) is also a good way to facilitate photo-heavy posting without slowing the site too much :) EvilGentleman: Thanks. I will start posting immediately, once I am done resizing. As long as it is not a problem, I will try to put all the images from my last walk (in multiple threads) on today, as I have hundreds of other images backlogged from other graffiti walks I have... Elicar: Okay, what I can't understand is, how the rich make the regular folks lose their homes. Call me dense, but if they bought it awhile back, their mortgage will stay the same, or even paid off now. Granted, property taxes have increased, but still, if the love of the home... Editor:: I'd say, post a few photos in each entry (6-10 if you like) and spread the entries out over a few weeks, perhaps giving them similar titles, so as to form a series (see the graf trux entries here: www.citynoise.org/search/graf_trux)
this will keep the bandiwdth concerns to a minimum (not too... EvilGentleman: Editors, a question, if you please - I want to post a thread, or set of threads with the graf pics I took in the last week, but even after editing, I still have well over 100 pics. You guys know better than I the limitations of the website in... EvilGentleman: Well, that should clear away all the dead undergrowth. I bet you that area will be the greenest area around by late summer. EvilGentleman: From what I have seen so far, I think I prefer taking pictures of the elderly as opposed to the young and beautiful. The texture of elderly faces is so much more detailed and real, and they are so much less likely to react adversely. On the other hand, taking... Get out of your car, buddy: Can we all have a big hug? I don't understand the rich people thing? Why do people always blame rich people? Blaming those rich guys is a passive response that most people say when they can't be bothered to get off thier couch and march.
My neighbours cut... EvilGentleman: Yeah, this shot was taken on the west side of Cabot Square by the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Atwater. The old Montreal Forum would be off to the left in this shot. I think the city has decided to make the white xmas lights semi-permanent, as it greatly enhances the... elaine: that chain fence is so jolly! me:): I live here too in the Beach and watching people lose their dreams thier homes that they broke thier backs for because of the rich people destroying the area is heartbreaking and and WE have many MEMORABLE easter parades from down here that were MAGIC for every... Elicar: At least the windows are clean! Peter: also: www.csc-scc.gc.ca/text/facilit/i . . . profiles/kingston_e.shtml why be a victim?: At the risk of offending... Why does this behavior upset people (male or female) much less traumatize them? It seems to me that these people want to upset and/or traumatize. I guess they feel powerful that way. I think people should laugh at these sad-sacks. Open ridicule seems like a... Peter: nice score, jeeff! glad you have a working camera now :)
the sun looks so golden and bright in these shots... thank goodness spring is finally here! elaine: some deserts have life and therefore plant infrastructure of their own - like cactii and stuff, but others that have been caused by deforestation are dead. in scotland there was a great deal of deforestation after the residents were killed or shipped off, to facilitate the hunting park that it... Peter: heh... she noticed you just as you snapped the photo... you caught her glance in that fraction of a second between first spotting you and then reacting. nice.
i like the one of the guy holding his hand up to his face, too. Peter: the one of the smiling cop is classic! Peter: wow, awesome! good thing for you you were just passing by ;)
an interesting read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingston_Penitentiary Peter: heh. funny. also, a great shot. nice score!
also: i think its interesting how many places still have their christmas lights up... even as april draws to a close... Peter: you know spring is popping when you see the forsythia start to bloom! Peter: wow, i didnt know it was a "style" either. that second shot is great. it looks like "anytown, usa".
i like the first one, too, of course ;) elaine: i like the curve of that holiday inn Elicar: Thank you! Life is good! Michelle: Very pretty! kc: sure doesn't feel like a desert in the photos...not that probably even deserts do....but anyway, they're beautiful... Addison: We have one of these hanging on the wall on the patio of our porch. My partner's dad was a beat cop here in Tampa and it's the one that was on his beat. jack: some kinda mustang, the red one and the white one. she gave you some look. and pic #8 i can see the man saying,"but how many times have i told them that they got to do it this way" and the first pic is a great study... jack: give up all hope yee prisoners who enter here. jack: great pics. you got some good poses. they are beautiful people. drea: awwww...i like smiles... Concerned HP'er!: Is it necessary to blast the bass thumping radio at 6:00 AM? Is it necessary to hang out on corners and deal drugs? Is it necessary to live in public/low income housing and still deal drugs? Is it necessary to have your head on a swivel looking... bk7rank: why do people in williamsburg think it's cool to do the same? they even toss up fake cardboard shoes... it can't be anything but neighborhood reappropriation. barry: Jeeff you got soom great photos. Love the third last one an Yeah go barry,Niceone. Previous Day :: Next Day |
