They have those sorts of communities in NYC. Theyre called Projects.
Projects, incidentally, were originally supposed to be these sorts of community-centered entities that you're daydreaming about, and look how they turned out.

SH*THOUSE: Well the animal shelter was meant to stop the killing of so many animals, however that fat pig running the place would rather kill than even think about adopting. They are building an information center, they should have expanded the shelter instead of spending more money on an information center.... Thanks for adding Dom's photos.The frontage of the Rialto cinema is very little different from when it was The Globe picture house. Even the Large door to the right of the main entrance is there which was a passage way down to the cheaper ticket office. It was also...
