So Kauai has thousands of wild chickens. They're everywhere. In the grocery store parking lot, walking around town, on the beach, in the rain forest. Among the many ethnic groups that moved to Hawaii were the Filipinos who brought along their fighting chickens. Well back in the 80's there were a couple of hurricanes that swept across the island and the chickens got loose. If you ever get a chance to do a zipline tour DO IT!! I thought it would be kinda hairy. You're going over these valleys on a cable that was 400 to 700 feet long and in some places over 200 feet above the ground. But it was SO MUCH FUN!! I saw this guy on the bike trail last night on my way home. Had the camera this a.m. on the way in. This thing is like a mile from the nearest road. Not sure who would hump it this far just to leave it. Maybe someone wanted to use it for some part of their shelter or something.

Tough Tulips

So I cleared this area out next to the house last summer (the cats were using it as a litter box) and I thought I had gotten all the bulbs out. I went out today and there were 8 of these little guys. They had pushed up through 1 or 2 layers of weed block and about 3 inches of river rock. I set to freeing them from their torment right away. And this guy was UNDER a yard waste can as well. Hope he makes it. Fragile flowers my ass.
