On a recent walking tour of Coney Island, Francis Morrone (www.francismorrone.com) described the Abe Stark Sports Center as one of the Ugliest Buildings in New York.
I can't say that I disagree. From the utilitarian 1960s-era bomb-shelter aesthetic to the general apparent lack up maintenance, as well as the impassable fencing and steel pull-down doors, this structure seems to have many prerequisites for such a classification. Not to mention the element of urban decay. I've passed it many times over the years, and never seen any activity at all within it, or around it.
It houses an ice-rink, and is right on...
