It was 36c (96f) last night when I snapped this photo, and a minor heatwave has been sweeping the greater NYC area for the past few days...
We call this a Bushwick Carwash. As many do, this vehicle slowed to a creep and drove through the stream, backed up and did it again and again til the light changed...
The City (and some conscientious local residents) put these flow-regulator caps on the hydrants so that they waste far fewer than the 8,000 gallons/minute that gush from a fully-open hydrant while still keeping the neighborhood cool...

This is the north entrance to the Freedom Tunnel, on the west side of Manhattan in Harlem. I could go on and on describing this place, its contents and meaning, but I'll let the photos speak for themselves. More reading here, though: Freedom Tunnel
Just inside the tunnel, looking north towards the entrance, early morning sunlight just starting to stream in. It was a hot day in NYC, but in the tunnel, it was much, much cooler, less humid, and filled with an atmosphere of dark, still, dead air...
