Light in August

One of my particular affinities for this town is the sky. The lighting here is rarely too intense, and when I first came here I was mildly surprised to see the sun rise and sink again before making its way to what i would consider its summit (directly overhead). The effects of this on lighting are quite nice. While June and July had many days of glaring sun, the evenings or late afternoons often brought relief in the form of thunderstorms. August, however, is markedly different. The lighting is more subtle, with deeper contrasts (can the two even be...

Man with Memories

I'm always a bit uncomfortable taking photographs of specific people, but I felt compelled to take this one. I see this man from time to time, sitting on the same bench, cigarette in hand, wearing this cap decorated with buttons and history. He seems to be perpetually lost in thought.

Car for Sale - Needs Work

Fuel prices "cramping your style"? Why not go retro on Regent Street with this classic carriage, conveniently drawn by horses*, and attract all the attention a Hummer might? With this snazzy ride you can go where-ever you like at a pace reminiscent of that of the slower days, where leisure reigned on decks as well as (unpaved) roads. Though this splendid vehicle isn't quite in mint condition, it's sure to be a beauty when in shape again. *Horses sold separately. Batteries not included. Winter tires recommended during months November-April, although this period may change with global warming.

There's a pretty major graffiti wall up on 109th and Broadway, on the south wall of the Foot Locker. Unfortunately, the exposure to open weather and sun-drenched nature of the spot, which is probably why its such a prominent wall...
